When we go down in two weeks, unless I learn something I don't know now (which considering the number of questions I've asked here would be about impossible), I plan on joining DVC. When we go into meet our guide, I plan to tell him to skip the standard spiel and just give me the latest figures (points cost, what is available with what use year, current MB offer, etc.). If everything is like I think, I plan on saying SOLD. My question is, how long will it take to do all of the paperwork, etc. We do plan to finance thru DVC and will use MB as part of our downpayment. I'm trying to figure out if I want to do a park on that day also. We have tickets for Cirque that night and if the DVC process takes a long time, it might would be that I wouldn't waste a pass for that day or possibly do Typhoon Lagoon in the afternoon. I plan on calling our guide next week and hope I can get an early appointment on that day.

PS - Don't know why I'm adding this but I'm real proud of my DW. She has really come around to the idea of DVC. She keeps asking all kinds of questions. In fact, I had planned on renting out our 2nd year points to help pay for a family cruise next year and she didn't think that was a good year. She was thinking about using the points for maybe a series of mini-vacations. Don't you just love your spouse when they come around like this. :D

My advise is DON'T skip the spiel, it is not nearly as annoying as "standard" timeshare garbage, and much of it may involve policies and legalities that must be covered before purchase. I'd allow about 2 hours, since you are already somewhat familiar with many aspects of DVC, where as someone walking into the program cold should allow 3 hours.

I would not skip the spiel either - it is a large commitment, be prepared to invest the time to listen and plus you will be asking more "intelligent/prepared" questions due to your exposure on the boards.

As for paperwork, it all happens pretty fast - think singular days

thanks
Jason

Hey there Wolfpack Fan. Glad to hear that all this is falling into place for you. I agree with your wife, save those points for DVC stays, especially since you will be new to DVC. She will fall in love with even the most lowly of DVC accommodations, the Studio. We are heading down in about 2 weeks, too, maybe our paths will cross. Congratulations on your decision.

If you do the spiel, I think you get a free meal at a Boardwalk restaurant. Big River Grill is where we went.:smooth:

My only thing about the spiel, is we went thru the entire thing last year. Surely nothing has changed since then. I don't need to hear how many wonderfull opportunities there are to use points, been there done it. I just want to sign and go.

You do not have to take any of your vacation time. Just call and do it over the phone. I gave them my credit card number for the down payment and they mail you the papers to sign. There is more than one mailing and it is all very easy to do. I think with all the mailings back and forth it took about 2 or 3 weeks.

I'm with Pa@okw95 on this one. If you've already been through the sales pitch, why go through it again? Especially if you're only interested in hearing the specifics that you mentioned. This can easily be done over the phone.

I'm in the process of closing on BCV. After taking the spiel a few years back and reading everything on these message boards, I just called up and asked for a few more details and signed up.

Kind of off topic, but the guide book says you can't make a reservation until you've closed. Well, after about a 5 business days after my down payment was in the system, my guide called me and gave me my member number and said I would make reservations. After picking myself up off the floor, I called MS an hour later and I made the reservation. Have the paper confirmation all nicely displayed on my refrigerator, thank you very much.

I think it's a huge decision, and it's not one that I'd want to be dealing with on a trip to the World. Give 'em a call, and get it all this out of the way. I think it's also normal to go through some "did I do the right thing" after buying, yet another set of emotions that has no place on my vacation time.

Give 'em a call. In fact, call Judy Kaufman (she rocks) at 800.827.7163.

I just made my downpayment on Wednesday. I called and talked to my guide today (Gib McCain) and he said that I was all set. He gave me my member number and I called the 800 # and booked my Feb 2004 vacation and have not even seen any docs as of yet. He said that they would be FedEx'ed in the next seven days. I will need to read, sign, and return them. I went thru the spiel down there last weekend, but made the decision to buy once I got home.

If you want to accomplish this face to face, call and set up an appointment. Tell you guide you're ready to sign and to have the paperwork ready. Took us about 30 minutes when we were there in April. Left with our member guide and our temporary DVC membership cards. This was a Friday and our guide said we could make reservations Monday.
Have fun!!:bounce: :Pinkbounc

DH was so mad that I listened to the spiel, but I wanted to hear it straight from the guide. From start to finish it took right around 2 hours (took a very quick tour of the models). We left with our temp cards, pens, and a nice bag and he said we could start making ressies.

You didn't make it clear in your OP that you'd already taken the tour. Yes, call your guide and tell him what you want - that way the paperwork can be ready and it shouldn't take too long, maybe an hour at most. THat way you save yourself the hassle of having to take it to a notary, etc. as DVC has one on premises.

Hey WolfPack Fan
Glad to hear your definitely joining the ranks! I would go ahead and call and get everything worked out before you get there so you wont cut into any vacation time. If you have heard everything already there is nothing new to hear.

By the way, watch this board and the community forum for any upcoming NC DIS get togethers. We got together with some folks last year in Raleigh and had a great time. It helps you get through your "Homesickness" which you will get. And congrats on your DW coming around. Mine had to get through her first trip home to get over her doubts, but she hasnt looked back since. Im so proud of her!!

If you have already taken the tour, heard the spiel, reviewed the info and know this is for you, I would not waste vacation time doing it again. I bought over the phone and have added on the same way and it is hassle free and very easy. I had gotten the info, taken the tour, heard the spiel etc and I knew the whole DVC concept definitely fit in with my vacation wants and needs, I was just waiting for a DVC resort that appealed to me.
Well, then they opened BWV and we went to visit the resort, check out the location and have dinner-- we did not bother with another tour because I had already reviewed everything. We came home from vacation and the next business day I was on the phone with my guide Judy Kauffman and bought over the phone and was able to use my pts for a trip several months later. Best vacation/relaxation decision I have ever made!!!
