How early should we arrive at the Transportation and Ticket Center if we want to be at the Magic Kingdom for the Rope Drop and Welcome Show on a non-EMH day when the park opens at 9am?

Depends if you want to be "at the front" of the crowd or just "in the crowd" for rope drop.
Personally we like to be near the front so we plan on being at the TTC at least an hour before rope drop.

You will need 20-30 minutes to get from your vehicle to the TTC, across the lake on Monorail or Ferry and then through bag check and turnstiles. Add at least 15 minutes if you want to be near the front. If its a high crowd calendar day, you will want to add more time to this.

If you want to be at the front of the crowd and along the rope for rope drop, allow 60-90 minutes from when you park your vehicle (depending on expected crowd volume for the day)

It will depend a little on the crowd level, season and day of the week for your particular visit. If it is really important to you to see the show and be one of the first through the tunnels on to Main Street I'd say get to the TTC by 7:30. If you're going at a less busy time of year and not on a weekend a little later should work.

An hour is likely fine (8am). Now - that's actually at the TTC - not driving through the gates to pay for parking, not at your car in the parking lot gathering your stuff - that's AT the TTC - which is after you have left your car and walk/taken the tram to get the TTC.

So - if staying on property and driving a car to MK parking - I'd leave your resort room at 7:30.

I have seen several times where they do the rope drop before officially opening (so between 8:30-8:45).

45 minutes tops.

Gate to car park = 5 min
car to tram = 5 min
tram to ttc = 5 mins
boat or monorail wait = 10 min
boat or monorail ride = 10 min
boat or monorail walk to gate = 5 min
security = 5 min

No way it takes longer than that.
