How much should i charge at yardsale for a lazyboy sofa in very good cobdition

Do you really think someone will pay for it?

We are in the process of renovating and moving into a much smaller home. Almost none of our furniture will fit the way the rooms are configured and I want to go with a different style so I have been looking for some used pieces to see if there's anything that works. It seems that most items posted on Facebook, Craigslist, and Nextdoor go very quickly.

I had never bought anything used before, but it is perfectly normal where I live. I have many friends who live in homes that are $500k+ who buy a lot of their furniture and accessories used at consignment shops. Anything someone in my neighborhood posts online is gone the same day.

Rebecca Realistic. I live in a 200+ unit complex, and we have been told by management not to bring home curbside furniture - specifically due to the (mere) possibility of bedbugs.

I think there's usually a difference between furniture that's been left outside at the curb to be thrown away and something that has been very lightly used from someone's clean home. If you weren't allowed to have anything that had ever been used due to potential bedbug contamination, then you wouldn't be able to move your own furniture from your previous apartment/house into your new one, right?

Are bed bugs really that big of a threat? We went through an antique furniture phase, but haven't bought any other used furniture. If we chose to, bed bugs would never enter my mind. I've seen reports of people encountering bed bugs at hotels, but I don't know anyone personally who has ever had to deal with them.
My DS's BFF has lived off and on with us through the years. He has truly lousy parents.

He went to the AF and on the last day of boot camp, he found out he was anemic and the AF didn't want him anymore. He came back to my house with the lovely addition of bed bugs from Lackland AFB.

It cost me about $3000 to have my house ultra-heated to eradicate the bugs.

It's truly something that I wouldn't wish on anyone.

Having said this. If the furniture is bought in the summer and you can leave it in an SUV for several hours in the heat and sun, the bugs, if any, would die and wouldn't be brought into your house. I work with many people who travel to India and back and they always leave their luggage in their cars to either ultra heat or freeze when they return so that any bugs that may have hitched a ride are eradicated. Problems can arise when it's not too hot or too cold.

My parents bought my DD a fabric lazy boy recliner at the Salvation Army when she moved into an apartment last year. They paid $25 for it and it's in beautiful condition.

Yes they are. A co-worker bought a bed at an antique store. The bed bugs came free. Here's an article on the top 10 places you can inherit bed bugs from: https://www.travelchannel.com/interests/travel-tips/articles/top-10-bedbug-infestation-spots

Almost all of the schools in my district have clothes closets until two of the schools found bed bugs in the closets. They hitched a ride in donated clothes. Now we have to send our families to a central location if they need something.

DD is in the process of shopping for a house, and was just on the phone with her Realtor and I had her ask about this here.
Her response was, "well, yes and no." Most new construction here will include a space for an office, bonus/game-room, dining room. It is up to the homeowner to decide how to use the space.
Here the space that was the dining room has been given to the family room/kitchen area making both larger.

Two story family rooms are out as well and that space is the bonus/game-room, would be really strange to put your dining room on the second floor!

I sure wouldn't want to be in the formal dining room furniture business.

Several of our big advertisers are formal furniture retailers, and high end stuff including dining room stuff sales are booming. That is why i was surprised how hard it was to sell quality stuff. Like I posted, these rooms tend to be right off the kitchen which would be on the first floor. Well, my son's Little League coach was a high buck attorney, and lived in a multi-million dollar house ($2.5 million according to Zillow), and the kitchen, dining room living room and family room were on the second floor. The bedrooms were on the first floor, But that was because of the amazing view of the river from the second floor.

Nice sofa at a yard sale? $30 tops.
Think this through: You're offering it for one short morning in your neighborhood. You're hoping that the right person will drive through, want this particular color /size, and will have a way to transport it himself. The cards are stacked against you.

As other have said, used furniture is priced LOW. It's not easy to sell. I think you'd have better luck on Craigslist, LetGo, or similar ... with those, you're not restricting yourself to people who happen to drive by in a four-hour period.

Also, as others have said, upholstered furniture comes with the risk of bed bugs. I know two people who've fought them, and they've both said the same thing: getting rid of them is expensive and difficult. The risk is small, but if you're the one who gets them ... look out. People know this and are less likely to jump for upholstered furniture.

Good point. We did have bedbugs once. They came with a mattress somebody (thought they) bought new, from a mattress factory.

But leave room for negotiating

The problem with mattresses is that the truck that brings your new mattress also collects old ones to recycle. :(

Sometimes you win and sometimes you don’t.

That type of house is quite common where my parents' vacation home is located. Known as reverse living. Same reason: better views from the second floor.

We got them once a few years ago from one of my daughters friends who came for a sleepover. It was such a pain in the butt to clean up. Luckily, ours were gone after one treatment and an all clear a few weeks later but there was daily vacuuming of the couches and mattresses.

I now see why people warn others of bed bugs. I had only heard of them, except in hotels that have a lot of international guests. I'll consider it in the future.

Yep. And in locations where the stellar views are up a story, it's not unusual at all. Many buyers don't want to waste the view with a traditional layout.

My parents' house is one story, but the living areas are at the back of the house, facing a (man-made) lake for the views. The bedrooms face the street. There are very few houses with traditional layouts in the neighborhood.

We also have quite a bit of furniture in very good condition that we are selling. I am calling ours a moving sale because it is. If it doesn’t sell, Salvation Army will pick up items that are in good condition.

They will only take it as a donation, at least in my experience, is if it is nearly perfect condition. No holes, including the lining and fabric under the seat cushions.
