We've been on a few of these and the only personal item actually ask initially is your family income. Marriott has a higher standard than most to qualify for gifts. I believe they are $60,000 or more where most of the rest are $50,000.
Just make sure you are not easily sold before going into one of these. Some of them will make it sound like the greatest thing since sliced bread and they can charm you right out of your money. I have no problem saying "no", so it isn't an issue for us.
Timesharing is great. We own six weeks and take terrific vacations with them. Almost anything you can buy at one of these presentations can be had for much less on the resale market. The tours are a great way to check out a resort you might be interested in.
It might be worth your while to do some web searching if you know in advance you will tour a specific resort. Take along some eBay auctions or other resale prices for the resort you will be touring. That shoud shorten the sales pitch.
