How much of a pain..2 different UY?

I will have 2 home resorts and 2 separate UYs. (seaparate contracts of course).

Is there a reason not to just automatically transfer all my points from one contract to the othereach year for easier point management?

I realize it is 1 transfer per UY- so I would not be able to any other transferring and I would have to coordinate it around my UYs... but other than blowing my one chance to transfer- why wouldn't I just do it that way?

Can transferred points be banked? Borrowed?

You can do it that way if you want, but it really doesn't buy you much unless you really need to combine points at the 7-month window to make a reservation. We have two master contracts and I don't find it that difficult to just manage them separately. Our smaller contract (100 points) we just bank/borrow and use that contract to make one of our reservations every couple of years. We use the other contract to make different reservations either the same years, or different years.

Transferred points retain their original resort and use year so none of that changes. Transferred points can be banked, but banked points cannot be transferred.

Transferred points cannot be borrowed.

Hmm. Did not know that either. Well, it is evident that I still have a lot to learn. I have the basics - Dis101 but this is 400 level stuff!

Thanks, Caskbill! I hope we won't have trouble finding our uy when it comes down to it but it is nice to know there are options that can and do work. I love this board!!!

For any of you that own 2 different use years, is it really a pain to keep up with? Any words of warning or is it pretty easy. I just put in an offer for an add on with a different use year. Thanks!

I almost did that, too. One of the best pieces of advice I ever got was my guide telling me not to do that, to buy the same UY for our add on points. We have since added on a third resort since the first two and it would be a nightmare to have different use years. I already have a huge Excel spreadsheet to help me plan 3 trips each year with the points from 3 different resorts. We're finally getting into a pattern where we'll use the points at each resort for the same time each year- spring at AKV, October at BWV and December at VWL. That will be much easier to plan, I think.

Still, I'd recommend against having multiple use years.

We have two different use years. One for AKV and BCV all on one master contract. One for OKW. We have not had any trouble managing them.

The OKW contract is the only one that gets used for multiple locations so it is the only one where we book at 7 months.
