How much movement in the forward section of the ship?

We are going on our first cruise on the Wonder next March. Right now, we have stateroom 7000 booked. I booked it because it's all the way at the end of the hall, and all the way forward on the ship. Now, I am rethinking. Although it may be quiet, will we have trouble with the motion of the ship? Since this is our first cruise, I don't know whether anyone will be bothered by motion sickness, but no one gets car sick, so I am hoping not. Is there a lot of movement in this part of the ship? Has anyone stayed in this room before? I've read the reviews, and they say it is quiet, no mention of anything else.

Thanks for your help!

We were on Deck 5 forward during the Westbound Transatlantic (14 days) in Sept, and there was very little motion.

Hello!

The forward, like the aft part of the vessel, will have more motion then the midsection, deck +/- 4. However the seas rule the game!. If its really rough you are going to have some motion, if the seas are calm or even moderate, the motion will be greatly reduced by the state of the art stablizers.:thumbsup2

If you really worried I would call the Doc get get whatever motion sickness medicine he or she may suggest. The New Meds are pretty good!

Lastly this should not be a big thing, if cars and planes dont bother you or your family.

Have a great cruise.

Pwn, most of the ships motion is side to side, not front to back.

The ships stabilizers, basically fins that are the size of airplane wings that can be swung out from the ship’s hull into the water, are computer controlled to continually adjust with the goal of minimizing this side to side rocking.

Does rocking still exist? Yes, it’s just much less then the pre-stabilized ships.

The way to reduce your rocking is not to move forward or aft, its to move closer to the keel. The keel would have the least rocking and the highest point of the ship would have the most.

The keel is like the fulcrum of a teeter totter.

In addition to this rocking there is a forward and aft movement but this is really only noticeable in very rough seas. This is where being in the ships center would be of benefit. Normally this part simply does not apply.

We just got off the Magic, room 2002, and would stay in that room again!! The motion was not bad at all and I have 2 people in the family that get sea sick. The only motion that we really felt was side to side, and you could feel that throughout the entire ship. We loved the quietness of the front. No teenagers running around in the hall because we didn't have stairs or elevators near our room. Have fun no matter where you are!!

The roughest cruise I ever was on, we were at the stern of a large ship up high. There was lot's of what they call Yaw. but really the whole ship was moving quite more than I had experienced on other cruises. ie the weather/winds matter the most. The calmest was low in the middle of the Disney Magic. --Smooth as glass. Most ships are very smooth. If it makes a big difference, ask for a lower middle of the ship room. I'm actually wondering if the higher decks of the Dream will experience a larger amount of roll.

We were on Disney Wonder last week. We stayed in front/right side and the only time I felt the motion was on the way back to FL from Castaway Cay during sleeping at night. We felt little rocking, but not hard enough to knock you off the bed, LOL.

I've asked several people, who are with us and stayed at a different cabin at different location (back, middle, and front). They're all said they felt the same thing like we did, so basically, there's not much difference on cabin location.

For me, unless the seas are fairly calm, I can't be in the front of the ship for any length of time; I really can't handle that pitching motion. I get motion sick though, so I may be more sensitive others. If you're not sure about it, I say be safe and book a cabin mid-ship. We've never had a problem with noise, and just walk to the back to use the aft elevators since they're less crowded and closer to the drink station, lol. HTH

We stayed in room 7000 last year, and it was wonderful. I am the motion sick one in the family (extremely sensitive), and other than the first night (which was rough for many), I didn't have any issues. And honestly, my issues weren't because of where the room was, since I got a little dizzy/queasy after dinner while on deck. I retreated to the room, with my non-drowsy motion-sick meds, and laid down for a while. Then I was fine. No one else had any issues due to room location at all. And yes, it is an extremely quiet room. We loved the location so much, that we booked room 7500 (same location, opposite side of ship) for our cruise in March.

I hope you enjoy! :thumbsup2

Thanks so much everyone for all of your replies! There is so much good information on these boards, I am getting an education. :teacher:

Terimac, so good to hear that you liked that room, that's reassuring.

I think we'll stick with it, and if we are able to upgrade to a verandah upon check in, we will, if not, we'll be happy with what we have.

Oooo, we've got 7500 on our cruise in June!! And my parents are way up at the front with 7512. I was afraid about being forward but it's a little reassuring after reading this thread.

Terimac, I wonder if we will be across the hall in March, are you on the March 20 cruise? We will be in 7000 on that one. Can't wait!

Thanks for posting your experience. I am taking my first cruise and am concerned about seasickness. The fact that you are sensitive and still couragous enough to book and rebook (!!) a trip gives me great encouragement.

We are actually on the March 12 cruise...but I'm sure you will have wonderful neighbors!:cool1:

I am so sensitive that I have to drive most of the time (I get motion sick even in the front seat depending on the driver). I certainly can NEVER ride in the back seat without being extremely sick within a couple of minutes...it has been a horrible curse. But with the cruise, I took precautions...I used the seabands and took the non-drowsy dramamine stuff (early on...didn't need either after the first day, except maybe one time, and again, just as a precaution). I also would just watch the horizon a lot, which was beautiful and not a chore.
Don't fear cruises due to motion sickness. Just be prepared to prevent it, and enjoy the ride...it is so amazing beyond words!:cool1:

I am so excited! I am prepared with ginger pills, and candied ginger, plus some Motioneaze (as well as the bands and Bonine!)

I think you will be fine, but just remember that if you are leaving out of PC, that will be the roughest time, provided there aren't any storms. You are going through the gulf stream and it can be a little rough, but by the next day it is smooth sailing.

I was just in 7007 on the Wonder 11/11 and have never felt so much movement. I have been on my 6 Disney Cruises. I will not stay forward again. The last night was the worst but as everyone said it all depends on the seas.

We were in the room right next door on the Magic for our Med cruise and didn't notice much movement at all, even on days when the seas looked rough. We also just got off the Wonder last week and stayed all the way forward on deck 1 and didn't feel anything. I'm sure you'll be fine and have an amazing cruise, but if you're worried take a few of the suggestions from here. Have a wonderful cruise!:goodvibes

That cruise was very rough due to the remains of Tomas so everyone felt tons of motion, especially the first night. The last night was incredibly windy; we were on deck 8 (mid ship) and I could hear everything blowing around above us.
