How Much More Can We Take?

Sorry to be all depressed etc.
But this past few weeks have been terrible, bad news after bad news.

It started off with Chelsea's Hip, me and my throat, and now 4weeks before we are supposed to jet off on our holiday of a lifetime, we have been told by our landlord (we privately rent, DP has is heart set on moving abroad, and so has never bought here,and opts to rent)...well now the landlord has decided to sell up and wants us out A.S.A.P.
We know he has to give us at least 2 months notice (28th july 2004 is the date we have to be out, we arrive home from florida on the 18th), which we recieved the other week from the courts.

It all started this house was orginally rented through a rental company, and so all the business went through us and them, then last novemeber we had a call to ask can the landlord come down, so ok I let them come down, they wasnt happy withe the decorating etc what the rental firm had done, so I had to decide on a new colour scheme and go through, december being upside down as they redecorated, 4rooms, living room etc, I had to put up with all of this, there as been so much here, what we have had to put up with, even a kitchen ceiling coming through etc, then in the school holidays I was awaken with 2 men stood in the living room demanding to do a gas inspection, which at 7:55am is a little of a joke? I phoned the police, etc As I had no letter off the company telling us they was coming..anyway now the landlord came down the otherweek told me they are selling, wants us out quick if not while we are on holiday can they come into the property to put in a new bathroom/kitchen etc for selling purposes, then I had a estate agent come in and value the property, then him and his wife was measuring windows etc, all after just telling me they was selling.
The thing is we are struggling to find somewhere else to go, esp as we only have 4weeks till the hol. its become a nightmare,I just dont know how much more I or DP can take.

And to top it off the hospital have delayed my app till the 21st of june instead of the 2nd and I cant go as We jet off on the 20th
Jeezzz....How much more bad luck can we have?

Sorry to moan, and be all down in the dumps, I am excited to go on holiday we need it, but it's all been ruined with all of this happening....I am so angry as we was told the property would never be up for sale as it was an investment property, and that was it's sole purpose, but I get the impression this Landlord wants this property to move into..there is something not right as he has asked me to put all the bills into his name as of now? is it tax related?

So now, in 4weeks we have to move, try and settle, get things for the holiday, sort my throat out and get chelsea a wheelchair. Ahhh what it is to be me! groan!

Surely they could give you leway. My mums been fighting to get a tenant out for a year.

Could you go to a Citizens advice bureau,maybe you have some rights regarding being given notice with such short notice?

Maybe he should be giving you compensation??

Well he said we can have till end of august (by is terms) which are that he can have keys and enter the property whilst we are on holiday (this is the only time he can do this as his wife is due to give birth), then he can get on with things like fitting a new kitchen, how can we be in florida, with him in our home? with our belongings? we can't agree to that, so really we have opted to be out before we jet off.
Everyone has said go to citizens advice, but all I want is some peace and quiet, we just want out, I'd rather sleep in a dustbin than be listening to him, and doing what he says.
It isnt fair what he is doing, he knows all about what we are going through with chelsea, and me, and still is pressurizing us to move, he rang this morning (this is of numerous messages on 1571) asking have we sorted out a date? I mean? how quick does he think we can move in a single breathe? Groan!

We did put a deposit down on another property, but that fell through as the landlord decided to get money hungry and asked for 6months rent in advance, which was £3k! So that fell through, and rest of the propertys are alittle over priced, and the rest are dumps to be polite.
So we are at the end of our tethers, we just don't know if to move in with dp's parents (which c'mon how could you live with your MOTHER IN LAW?) LOL, or with my mum, and then sort something out after the hols when we arent as pressured...I just dont know.

I am convinced the landlord as done this on purpose, he seemed to be interested in when we was going on hol, how much, etc..I dunno

I really feel for you, your Landlord sounds like a right idiot I hope you find a new place soon, the quicker you get away from him and his house the better. You need someone you can trust.

I hope you get it sorted bfore you gon on your hols if not put your things in storage and stay with one of your parents. Then you can enjoy your holiday.

Beth - first, a big huge HUG.

I feel for you - we were in a similar position some years ago. We were renting out our flat and when we gave the "woman" (that's the polite name we call her) her three months' notice to quit, she refused to go and it took us 9 months and nearly £5000 to finally get our propery back . . . and that was with all the legal documents, contracts etc for the rental agreement.

During this time we had to move out of the house we were renting because we'd given notice when we put ours on the market (large house, our flat was only one bedroom and Katie had come along by them ). Until this "woman" moved out, we were homeless, so it was a case of either renting somewhere else for how long we didn't know, or move in with MIL. We were with her for nine months eventually because that's how long it took to get the she devil out. It really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, it actually all went very smoothly and the good side was that we saved a bucket load of money while we were with her because although we paid out way, we weren't having to pay all the bills associated with owning your own home.

Some people - your landlord, our she devil tenant - are incredibly selfish and self-centred about their own needs. The reason we wanted to sell our flat was so that we could buy a bigger house for my father to move in with us, following the death of my mother and his subsequent stroke. Sadly my father died only three months after moving into "our" lovely house and the only way I can ever look on that woman is that she robbed me of 9 months of my father's time with us.

I wish you lots of luck in your decisions as to what to do, don't do anything too hasty, think about moving in temporarily with family because that gives you the time and a base to find the home you really want, rather than rushing to get the first thing.

What a lot to cope with all at once!

I agree that the best solution to the accommodation problem would be to move out, put things in storage and go off on your holiday an try to enjoy it without the worry of sorting out the whole situation when you get home. At least if you're out of the house before you go to Florida, that will be one big worry off the list and you may stand a better chance of forgetting your troubles for a couple of weeks. When you get back, you can put all your energies into finding somewhere new to go.

If you have the option of staying with family for a while, at least you won't have to be homeless. It may not be an ideal answer, but hopefully it won't be for long.

What a terrible time you are having. Statistics show that a load of bad things often happen together and I am sure you'll find you have years of trouble free life once all this has passed. Hopefully you will have a clump of lucky stuff happening to you in about six months time.

We really appreciate it.
Well we are starting to pack this weekend, might as well get it over and done with.
We are going to keep looking for another home this week, we just want it over and done with so we can get sorted for the holiday, fingers crossed.

The landlord emailed me, amongst calls he has done this weekend, stating that "this is a real date" to be out etc, gr! I think he thinks WE are stupid.
It's his property I respect that but what He and his family lead us to believe it totally the difference to what he has done.

He wished us well with packing, and basically the sooner we are out the sooner he can get on with modifying the house, so he can sell,inconsiderate YEP!

2boysmumanddad, thanx, I really hope we get some positive news we deserve it, its been a terrible year so far!, I know this is nothing compared to what people in the world are suffering or going through and I keep telling myself that
We will be ok
