how much money for a teacher gift?

Generally I give $25 if it's one teacher. Last year when 1 of my kids had 2 I gave $20 to the Head teacher and then a $15 to the Assistant.

I'd say between $1-10.

I agree.. Unless it's a one-on-one teacher that is specifically devoting all of their time to only your child - a "token" gift is more than sufficient..:santa:

I am struggling with this as well. Both of my girls are in middle school and they rotate between 4 primary teachers. I just don't want to break the bank......

We did
$25 for my daughter's first grade teacher
$15 each for my son's 4 4th grade teachers
$10 each for GT teacher and assistant, music, pe teacher and assistant, computer and art. (All of those people work with both of our children.)
I think that was it! I also made a special item for my son's homeroom teacher. I had big plans for making one for all 4 of his teachers, but it just didn't happen!:goodvibes My plan is to finish theirs by the end of the year. Maybe one by Valentine's, one by Easter, one by the end of the year!:rotfl:

Today was my daughter's last day before break (1st grade) so I just asked her what some of the things were her teacher got. She said most of them were mugs. :lmao: I just had to laugh because of the teacher gift threads every year that say NO MORE MUGS PLEASE! Not to mention this teacher is in her 50's and could probably stock a coffee shop with the amount of mugs she's gotten over the years. We gave several magnetic note pads, a big block of post it notes and a nice pen. She is forever sending notes home and using post-its, and I know some teachers have to buy their own supplies like that so at least I know they'll get used. I would think $5-$10 is enough to get a thoughtful, practical gift, or a GC in that amount will buy a nice lunch or a few cups of coffee.

we spent about $25 on each teacher.... She picked out Godiva Chocolates and then a $10 bath n body works gift card :)

I gave DD's teacher a $20.00 Publix gift card along with a really nice poem I wrote her. Essentially I was telling her that I wanted to give her the gift of "time" and she could get a meal from the deli for her and her family along with dessert and tea. yummo! She loved it! :lovestruc

I gave $10 gcs to each of DS15's high school teachers and $20 to his bus driver(he has picked him up several times along the street when he is about to miss the bus and drops him off in front of our house in the afternoon, even though it is not a stop) I wish I could give more, but I just can't this year.

I am a teacher(PreK/K) as well and received gifts from 7 of my 19 kids. They ranged from bath and body works shower gel to a $50 Walmart gift card. I also got a $30 gc to a local bookstore, $20 to the movie theater and $10 to The Cheesecake Factory, and $25 to the local mall. I was really surprised that some parents spent so much!

Some of the kids who didn't bring a gift from home were sad and I asked them if they wanted to make me a picture. When they brought them to me, I hung them up by my desk and told them that a gift from their heart makes my day brighter.:)

Seriously, this year I'm spending 25 cents each. Normally, I'd spend more, but I was budget minded and found a bargain. I'm actually getting something that's normally much more expensive. A co-worker's DH works for a costume jewelry distributor (think Juicy Couture, etc.) and they are going out of business so they had a fire sale on all their shelf pulls from last year's holiday items. She got 250 items for $60 and is sharing the wealth. Some of the items were valued at $200 and were sold at Neiman Marcus, Nordstroms, etc.

I usually spend about $20 - 25.00 on DD's elementary teacher. Usually DD wants to buy them a jewerly set as her teachers do all seem to like and wear jewelry on a daily basis.

For DS's preschool he has four teachers we buy for. I buy them each a $5.00 gift card to Dunkin Donuts, there is one right near his school that they all use. :) Plus I contribute to the teacher whole school gift with $20.00.

This year I got my twin girl's in first grade teachers each a lambie blanket from Bath & Body works. I love these balnkets and had a coupon so was able to get them for $23 each. I got one for i dd reading teacher too because she has been so good to her.

My dd who is in 6th grade and has a team of 4 teachers I will do a basket with Dunkin Donuts coffee and Lindt chocolates, gum, mints, etc.

Our school district made a big fuss this year over gifts. The only cash / giftcard type gifts can be from the class as a whole and cant be more than $100 in total.

Individual gifts can't be monetary.

We may spend 10-20 on a small gift and bake some cookies.

I am fine w limiting the gift policy...
In our district the average teacher makes $100k/yr (yes, that is jusy a salary number... not including benefits) and they will get a fantastic pension and medical benefits for life.

I have 2 kids, so $30 for each teacher in a gift card. Plus, I hope to get some supplies one of the teacher's desparately needs and have my daughter bring those in after the New Year.

I thought I was doing okay... I have 3 girls, each gave a can of Girl Scout Mint-Meltaways (cute snowman tin, cost $9) a $5 Target gift "coin" tucked in the lid, and a handwritten letter to the teacher.

I cashier at Target and a mom I know from school bought $100 gift cards for her teachers!

At the class parties today, the teachers were getting a lot of fancy "swag." While I feel comfortable with our family's choice, I hope our teachers don't think we appriciate them less.

The school is brand new, zoned to many newly built, large, pretty homes, and there is a lot of "impressing others" going on around here by the parents. (My DH calls them 60k -a-naires. Because they make $60k but like to "appear" like millionaires!)

But these teachers are young, young, young... my kids' teachers are 23! (fresh out of student teaching), 26, 27. So they aren't banking on "years" of experience and feeling appreciated by "token" gifts. I hope they don't feel dissed (like when you give a paltry tip when you get bad restaurant service)
