How Much Mickey Is At Hilton Head?

I'm having a hard time finding much on Hilton Head. Since it's a Disney owned place, I'm assuming there is some Disney there. How much? We are giving our points to a couple who are going to spend their 20th anniversary there. And, as much as I love Disney, I want to know what they are getting into.

well there were Winnie Pooh and friends craved into the bushes.....

does that work? :earsgirl:

Hilton Head will be great for an anniv. trip. There is not alot of saturation of Mickey or Disney. I hope no one will spoil the little hints that mickey comes to HHI to relax. When you see one, it makes it so much more heart warming.

HHI has two characters that greet guest. B'lou Crabbe and Shadow. They are not as well know, but they are the best.

Even though HH is a Disney resort, it's totally unlike a WDW vacation. Cast members will still have the familiar "themed" look to their clothing, and will wear the same nametags. There will be the usual paper goods with the Disney name imprinted. There's a topiary of Bambi at the front of the property, and a a few hints here and there - a hidden Mickey or two, maybe, and some merchandise in the gift shop. Otherwise, nothing else is "theme park" like. No characters, no autograph lines, no rides or music or parades or balloon guys...well, you get the idea. Just lovely SC lowcountry scenery surrounded by water, and a beautiful SC beach with real (not Disney animations!) dolphins swimming in a real ocean. It's a great resort - just a touch of Disney, but nothing more. We love it!!!!

Thanks!! It sounds perfect. Maybe I want to keep the points for myself! We are actually going to plan a trip to HH maybe next year. I just wasn't sure what to expect with it being Disney.

I remember something about "hidden Mickeys" and check-in. Was it that they'll give you a list of the hidden mickeys at check in if you ask? I also think there are hidden mickeys in the pictures at the check-in desk, in pictures around the lobby, etc. When we went, on Wednesday morning they had a 1 hour tour (not a "3 hour tour" :cool1: ) where she (I can't remember her name) amazed me by showing me all the hidden mickeys around that I'd missed. And if I remember correctly, isn't there a carving in the bench in each villa that alludes to Mickey and Minnie?

There are two websites that might be of interest.

www.islandpacket.com will give you the local news.

www.hiltonhead.com has a calendar (click the link on the left hand side of the page) that will show you events in the month you are interested in.

As far as how "Disney" Hilton Head is...imagine if you picked up a Disney Resort whole and plunked it down elsewhere. To me that is what Disney's Hilton Head is, a Disney Resort without WDW attached. It seems to me it has a bit more in the way of activities for adults because it isn't attached to WDW. But the beach, bikeways, golf courses and tennis courts replace WDW quite nicely. There is also a variety of beaches and golf resort type shopping.

I think what makes HH so amazing is that its brimming with Disney "magic"...you know, that feeling and atmosphere that tells you your somewhere special. But the outward Disney signs are more subtle. We love HH.

Exactly! I have absolutely no worries about sending them there, because it is a Disney resort.

Thanks for the great web sites. I signed up to get the travel brochure. We are going there for 10 days in July for the first time!!

HH is a fantastic resort. After staying there one night on the way back from our 2003 Disney cruise, we fell in love with the place and bought a small add on to assure that we could go to HH in a studio every couple years during high season if we wished.

Has anyone ever flown there?? Which airport did you fly into??? Is a rental car necessary??

At Disney HH they have a lot of planned activities for guests. We are going in June. I called HH and they told me to call back in May and they would fax me a copy of the activitiers calender. They said some of the activities are very popular so you may want to reserve ahead of time.

There are prices listed on the website for certain activities. We are giving our points to some friends, does that mean that they count as members since they are using points?

You welcome. I went to HH in early November for the first time. That seems to be a very off time in general never mind activities at Disney so I was motivated to try and dig up as much as I could on the web. July should be a piece of cake. I loved the location of Disney which is a bit contrary because most people want their resorts on the beach. However Disney is in Shelter Cove which apparently is becoming somewhat of center for festivals in Hilton Head and while it has its own private beach access it seems to be relatively close to public access as well. As long as I'm here in ATL I'll probably be spending time at HHI. Might even pick up a few points there.

Dh and I stayed at HH for the first time in Oct. on a trip from NC to WDW. At first I was a bit taken aback by the lack of theme parks (YES, I knew it was going to be no theme parks!). It didn't take me long to get over it :rotfl2:

I loved the fact that it was so quite and peaceful and relaxing. DH loved the fact that there were many golf courses to be conquered! So .....

We're planning a week long trip in Sept. :cool1: :cool1:

Can't wait. I could have sat and rocked and read a book on the porch for hours. Oh yea, I did do that!!

We flew into HH airport-needed to connect in Charlotte, NC to a prop jet-like a bus w/ wings. The nearest major airport is Savannah-30 min. or so.
Yes you need a car.

The nice thing about the HH resort is that I know it is is Disney so everything will be up to snuff-rooms, CM"S, property-everything maintained. Also, the guests at Disney resorts just seem happier.
What I really love about HH is that the feeling of the SC low-country is incorporated into the place. You know you are in Hilton Head--not Florida. I think DVC also does this at Vero-you know you are in Vero, not Orlando. It;s great because you can appreciate the "neighborhood" of your other Disney homes.
Great place for an anniversary. Shelter Cove and the rest of the island have a lot of great restaurants. Definately rent bikes. It is fun to ride to the beach. Hop your friends have fun.
