How much longer did one parent

My Dad died in 1976 at 55. Mom died in 2009 at 91. She was a widow (33 years) longer than she was married (30 years). I now know how hard that must have been.

I am approaching 5 years since DH died, 2 months after our 39th anniversary.

My dad died when he was 55- my mom is still alive at 88--- 33 years and never went back into the dating scene ever. It was tough because she was a housewife and when he died it left her with not much income (since he died so young it was a fraction of his pension) and no job skills- certainly made me make sure I was never out of the job market depending on anyone else's money to support me that's for sure!

My mom and dad are still alive but they are only in their mid 50s--they aren't married to each other and I haven't seen my dad in 25 years though. DH's mom and dad are still alive and are early-mid 70s.

My DH's grandmother is 91. Her husband died of heart problems (also a smoker) in 1984, I think...so 32 years she has lived alone. (She never lived alone before, got married at 15...married until his death) She never wanted to remarry, she still tears up every so often when she thinks of her husband.

:flower3: My own Grandma was like that - she was on her own from 1978 until her own death in 1996. My DDad and his siblings were very devoted to her though and made sure she stayed active and didn't want for anything.

My mom died in 1986, at the age of 50. Far too young. My Dad lived until 2015 at the age of 84, or 29 years more than mom.

Six months.

Mom died, six months later Dad was gone. Mom as 67, Dad was 66. Dad was just 2 weeks shy of his birthday.

My Dad died in June 2001 at age 72. My Mom died in February 2011 at age 83. So 10 years apart. l still miss them terribly. They were wonderful parents.

12 years. My mom passed away at age 69 in July of 2004 and my dad at 86 in July of 2016. My inlaws are still both alive and if my MIL were to die today, i think my FIL would follow within months. He is one of those that cannot take care of himself and relies on her for everything. If it goes the other way and he goes first, I think she will feel some freedom for the first time in her life and take advantage of that. They are both 81 and I hope they live into their 90's.

My Dad passed in Jan of 2010 at 67. Mom is still going strong at 72. In fact she is planning a "sisters" Disney trip in the spring. It will be my Mom and her sister(74) and my sister and I.

Both my parents are still alive - Mom is turning 69 next week, my Dad is 71.

My FIL passed away suddenly (stroke) in 2002. My MIL, since becoming a snowbird, has begun 'dating' in the past few years. The guy she's with right now is a really good guy - our boys love spending time with him. I don't think they'll ever get married or anything, they just enjoy spending time with each other. :)

My dad died in 1993 at age 51 and my mom died 18 months later in 1995 at age 50. Way too young for both of them.

My parents are still alive but my grandfather died 15 years ago. My grandmother married at 16, raised 6 daughters and stayed married until his death. She did everything for my grandfather, especially at the end after his multiple strokes. My grandfather didn't like eating out or fast food so she cooked everyday for 40 years. He only liked my grandmother's cooking.

She was distraught after his death but I know she feels the freedom for the first time in her life. She travels a lot, does missionary trips with her church and goes out with her BFF often. I actually ran into her at a casino on a Thursday night at midnight!!!

My mother lived 14 years more after my father passed away. They were both born in 1919. He was 74 and she was 88 when they died.

My Dad is still alive, but my Mom passed away 19 years ago. (Gosh, it doesn't feel like that long!)

We do still have both on DH's side.

She is still sharp mentally. She was even still driving and going to church until a couple of years ago. She does still live on her own but she lives on a property that was divided into 3 parts years ago...she is in a house in the middle, her daughter and son in law on one side, her son and daugther in law on another. Her other daughter lives in the same small town about 10 miles away. So she has people to take her to appointments, grocery shop for her, etc.

But right after her DH died, she learned to drive and got her GED. She then worked outside of the home. Strong lady.

My dad died in 2000 but mom is still going strong 17 years later at 66. DH lost his dad within 6 months of mine and his mom just a few months ago. I do have 1 grandma still kicking at 92.
