How much liquid in crock pot?

This is my first time using a crock put. I put in a 4-lb chicken and some carrots and then poured a 32 ounce container of chicken broth in, it comes up about halfway. Is this too much or too little liquid? I just want the chicken to be falling off the bone.

I use no liquid. I just put the chicken in sprinkle with seasoning and that's it. It comes out so good and so juicy!

Same here with chicken, but since you have veggies in there, make sure the liquid covers the veggies. (I'd take it down some...just cover the veggies with it). I haven't done it in a long time, but I used to simply put the whole chicken in the crockpot with some herbs and let it cook. Falling off the bone tender and quite flavorful.

I'm a crock-pot-newbie, but I've noticed that there is definitely such a thing as using too much liquid. As I learned here on the boards, the liquid doesn't evaporate away in a crock pot, so adding too much would make soup!

I've used only half a can of broth at times. That seems plenty.

This sounds really good. I haven't done a whole chicken in the crockpot before. Do you have to use a certain type of chicken? Our supermarkets often advertiser "Whole Chicken Fryers" but I've always avoided those since we don't fry.

Are you trying to make soup? If so that's enough - if you're trying to roast a chicken - dump the liquid out.
