I have no clue. DW takes care of that. I could not come within $500 of what the mortgage payment is and I don't want to know.
Update: We're actually at $680/month. I thought I could guess-timate within $100 or so in my original post. Sorry. I was at work when I posted yesterday with no info. at hand - made a guess off the top of my head.

I'm still reading this thread and a bit amazed by how little people pay for their mortgages in most of the country. I know the real estate market in the Northeast (&Calif) is crazy but I didn't think it was that skewed.
I didn't realize things were this skewed either. I thought maybe S. Cali. & around the major cities in the NE, and beachfront property, but I had no idea...
SCMinnie was the first poster to mention schools in this thread. Schools were a major issue in deciding where we'd be. In this county, elementary education aren't exactly great shakes, but the scores/rankings improve dramatically in middle school and into high school. The middle school we're zoned for (and where our son is attending, just started there this year) was in the top 25 schools in the state last year, and the high school we're zoned for is consistently among the top 10 schools in the state. I wouldn't put the county's overall schools in the 'awesome' category (the elem. schools aren't up to snuff, in my opinion) but our kids will get a good solid education, especially in high school.
No mortgage, no bills!!!! DH and I decided to downsize (went from a 3200sqft home on 5 acres, to a 1800 all brick home in a neighborhood closer to family) and paid cash. Now we both only work part-time DH 3d a week and me 2d a week to pay the necessaries (electric water insurance etc..), and the rest is for fun!!!
