We have about 300/mo on mine (2006 Honda Civic) just started and 330/mo on my wife's (2002 Toyota Camry) about to end in a few months.

Must be nice to pay cash for cars! When one is totaled unexpectedly you don't always have 3-4 years to save for a new one... unfortunately, I've had to run out and buy 2 cars this way after accidents =( course, I was a starving student both times and had little savings to speak of - hand to mouth LOL!

This car is almost paid off, I pay $380 for a Volvo S40. I got a nice settlement on the last accident and put a chunk down after medical bills were paid. We plan to drive this one into the ground, but DH will need a new car soon after that.

The interest rates are so ridiculously low that I have no issues with doing that for his vehicle either...

We just paid off our truck last year and it was a full size ex cab Chevy it was 535.00 a month .
Dh bought me a 05 Mercedes Kompressor for my birthday last June and I really dont know how much he pays but I know he is not plannign on getting himself anything new for awhile . He said he wants to pay off the Benz frst so I think he is paying more then 535.00 a month for it .

Apparently I'm not hanging with the right group of friends. I don't know a single person, NOT ONE, who has ever paid cash for a car. You guys seriously have $20K+ lying around? Wow, that's it, just wow.

Our cars are now both paid for (not early either, lol) but when we had payments, they were each appx $350 a month.

Wow, several of my friends purchased their cars outright. They aren't the type of people that are into payments.

I'm not into payments either but so far I haven't had a choice. We did pay cash for DH's car though. I just can't swing two and we do run our cars until they fall apart.

DH and I paid our car off 5 years ago, it's a 99 Jetta and we had a $350 car note. Looking to get a Toyota next and hoping to be able to put some major cash down on it. DH and I need to start saving a car payment a month....soon! My Jetta is hanging in there, but I have sooooooooo much that needs fixing. I probably won't get much at all on a trade in when they see it.

Between 4 and 500 and it gets paid off this July....YIPPEE!

Well, the money isn't just laying around :teeth: --we saved it for a new car. I drove a '94 T-Bird (that I bought new) until 2004, then I bought a new car in cash. We still have the T-Bird (it only has 60K miles on it) and DH has a Subaru that is paid for. The new car was around $20K, I didn't want to go into debt for something fancier but I wanted something more dependable than the T-Bird for longer trips. I'll probably drive this one until 2014 and then get another new one.

I too have a Honda Odyessa, 2006, EX-L, love the car so much!!

We did a home equity loan for this one.

If you do a search, there's been a couple of discussin threads of said car.

had one that was close to $750.....that was the D/A crew cab....my envoy was 537.87 and now i have my passat without a payment, and of course there is mudnuri without a payment

No car payment here. Started paying cash for cars with the last round. Keep them 10-15 years and then pay cash for the next one. We plan to never have a car payment again.

Once you get this mentality and get one car paid for in cash under your belt, it's easy to do the second one....and so on.

This is absolutely true!

I can't imagine how long it would take me to save up $15,000-$20,0000. :hourglass

My payment right now is about $260. I got totally ripped off with my trade in and had to dump the rest of that loan onto this one. I make really dumb financial decisions sometimes. I'll admit it! :rolleyes1

Truck $517 (Thats with 0% financing and a 3500 family discount!)
Van $392 (6% interest)

Both were purchased new. I don't mind the car payment. After years of used cars and espensive repairs (including a Blazer that blew the motor and precipitated the van purchase) I'd rather drive something without the worry of repair.

We no longer have any. My last was $199.09/month (yes that was only 5 years... with 1.9% financing actually).

Before that I had $269 and my DH had $350 (ish) His previous one was $450 and I told him that had to go!

At this point in my life I can't even imagine not having a car loan! We are mid-twenties, own our home and are expecting our first child in two months. We contribute approx. 10% of our salary to our 401(k) plans. I have modest student loans to pay off. The only other debt we have is our DVC loan...which with dues is under $150 a month.

We don't know a thing about cars so buying a used car is not really an option for us. Plus, to get something decent, we would still have to take out a loan on that. We just couldn't afford to get socked with a $2,000 repair bill if a transmission would go or something like that. At least with a new car, we have some protection with a warranty.

We pay $400 a month for my Ford Escape. We have a little over 2 years left to go on that loan. My husbands Ford Ranger was paid off right before we got the Escape. However, we need to trade that in soon and get something else, because we can't put the baby in it (no back seat). Even to buy something new and cheap we are looking at close to $200 a month...used we might be able to get with the trade in and no payments, but then we are looking at basically a rust bucket. We are considering a short term lease until my car is paid off and then buying something decent when that is up. With childcare going to cost of $800 a month, I just don't see anytime in the near future when we can get ahead and pay off our cars and be able to save up a ton of money to pay cash for a car.

I don't think it works when you are just starting out. You need time to get ahead of the game. BUT, the biggest thing is to always get LESS car than that you "want" or think you can afford. I'd rather own a $20,000 car outright then have the latest $40,000 wiz-bang vehicle with a car payment.

We have one as well. :) It's the first vehicle we've financed, but we'll probably pay off most of it in the next year or two, with a combination of home equity loan and cash. :)

I have a 2003 Nissan Sentra. The note is about 180.00 a month. I plan on keeping this car for a while, until it falls apart!

That's very interesting. Everyone in my family pays cash for cars. The trick is to buy that very first car, or your next car used. And don't pay a lot, just a few thousand dollar car to get you around. Save up for that and pay cash...and then keep making "imaginary payments" towards your next car. As your income increases, you'll be able to put more away, and when the wheels fall off that first car...you buy yourself another used car, but this time a better one. And so on.
