How much is put on hold when cc is used at checkin?

I am leaving tomorrow and i'm trying to decide if I want to be able to charge things on my room key.We will be in a 2br if it matters.I think I remember them putting a hold of 1500? I don't like to carry money so I will either charge things on my room key or debit card but need to know how much the hold will be before I decide Thanks!

The room charge limit doesn't have anything to do with your credit card's credit limit, but is instead based on the type of resort you're staying at. Credit limits for room charging are as follows:

Value: $500
Moderate: $1000
Deluxe/DVC: $1500

You can request a smaller amount if you like.

If you don't spend the limit, it will be charged automatically to your card on the night before checkout. If you reach the limit, it will charge the balance to your card immediately. Sometimes I've had it where charging just keeps going normally after this happens, others I've had to communicate with the front desk to ask them to reset charging on the card again.

I usually do a pretty good job of keeping up when it gets close, but on the few times I did go over and the room charge wouldn't go through, the person who was trying to process the charge for me called the resort and got it resolved. Once it was at World Of Disney, the other time it was paying for our Wishes Cruise at Grand Floridian.

The one time I was really upset was when I hit the limit and it charged off to the card before I'd gone down to apply my Disney Visa Reward Dollars and Disney Gift cards to the balance. I had to hold them for the next trip.

Thanks,I couldn't seem to find those anywhere! I think I remember them placing a hold on my card for that amount.I just needed to know so I don't try to charge dinner on my card and have it declined because there was only 1500 available it and the resort put a hold on it for room key charging.

If, my some chance you have a Disney Visa rewards card or ever get one, go down the night before and have it applied to your account. Makes check out a whole lot faster.

We have Visa gift cards, is it possible to apply them to your account prior to having a balance? We're a party of 10(our kids), our treat so we really want to use those cards.

Yup..I did this on a past trip w/ no problem. About halfway through my stay I stopped at the front desk and applied our gift cards to our balance and the remainder was charged to my credit card upon check out.

However, I'm not sure if they've changed a policy, if the policy is different at each resort, or if it was just the luck of the draw on which cast members have checked me in. On the past few trips, they would not allow me to pay the account into a negative balance with my gift cards. I had to wait until I'd made some charges, then use them to pay the balance down.

As I mentioned, it becomes a timing game. You need to make sure you get down to the desk to use the gift cards before they move the charges off to the credit card.
