My family and I stayed at the RPR for 4 nights last week. Upon our arrival we decided to valet park. On the following day we did some shopping and had dinner. When we returned to the RPR we decided to self-park in order to save the $7. But to our surprise, we could not find a parking spot. In fact there were numerous cars parked in locations in the parking lot. We eventually took the car back to the valet. As previously stated, it is a shame that the hotel charges so much to park even though you're a guest. It is also unbelieveable that they do not have enough self-parking spots for their guests.
We went to dinner at the PBR and they have a multi-level parking garage. Maybe the RPR should invest in some additional parking for their guests.
RPR actually has more spots than most people even know about. If you keep going straight after you pass the guard gate and take the road around past tower 2 there is a bunch of self-parking behind there as well.
I was once told that the reason they charge to self-park has to do with Universal. They do not own nearly as much land as lets say Disney so they have to charge for the land they are using up with hotel parking lots. In fact, most nice hotels/resorts charge for parking. They just don't always do it with a direct parking charge. Many resorts have resort fees which is so much per day sometimes even per person. That includes free parking and other amenities.

I'd rather have it included and not KNOW I'm paying to park.......makes sense why they charge you tho...thanks for the explanation....I've never encountered a hotel/resort I would have had to pay to park at that I was staying at! Like I mentioned, glad we won't have a car!!
