How much is hairbraiding?

How much is hair braiding? I am going in August on the cruise, and I am bent on getting it done (despite the fact that you all are saying it hurts ) Is it cheaper to get it done on castaway then in nassau? And how long does it take to get the actuall braiding done (not counting waiting time) I was just wondering.

It was $2.00 a braid when we were on Castaway Cay(Aug.2000) My daughter had braids done on just the top of her head and it took about 45 minutes. It looked great but it did hurt-tears in her eyes many times. She was 12 at the time. I've heard that Castaway Cay is the cleaner place to have it done. I'm not sure where I read this-somewhere on the boards but I believed it and didn't want to take any chances.

Yes, CC is definitely the cleaner place, but the price there is not negotiable.
In Nassau, you can get a better deal, but be sure to only use a braider in the designated area, which has running water and is cleaner than just having it done on the streets (which is illegal but goes on all the time anyway). If you are having her whole head done, agree on a set price beforehand...TOTAL price, not per braid, or you could be in for a bad sticker shock!

I did mine in Nassua and my 2 year old had hers done in Freeport...mine was 1.00 a braid and hers was 30.00 for her head. Honestly it didn't hurt much and my daughter sat there letting the woman do hers so I am sure it didn't hurt her either. Taking them out wasn't so hard either...I cut the rubber bands off, took the beads off then got in the bathtub with her, loaded her head with conditioner and they sort of just slipped out as you rubbed your hands down each one.

Nassau is cheaper. Be SURE to negotiate for a lower price, people have paid between $30-$80 for the exact same thing!!!! Tell them that you will only pay a certain amount, be sure to specify exactly what you want (whole head, box braids, cornrows, hairband, etc), and be prepared to walk away. They will not let you get too far. Also, be sure to bring your own comb!!!!! It took about 1 hour for them to do my daughters hair, she is only 6 and didn't have one tear from pain, she actually almost fell asleep, she liked it so much. My mother and I loved sitting and listening to all the ladies talk, it reminded me of old beauty parlors with all the gossip going on. Enjoy! -Sue

My 5 year old daughter had her whole head done for $40 in St. Maarten in January. Two women did it in less than 30 minutes, it did not hurt her at all. Next time, however, I would only do it with someone using rubber bands on the beads, ours were done with foils. They started coming out two days later. I had them repaired on ship and will probably just do it there next time. It came out to nearly the same price, and they're still around if you have a problem.

If you know you're looking to get her hair braided, why not bring your own combs?

one had 18 braids and one had 19. The cost was $2 a braid and we did it at Castaway Cay. Well worth it as it was kind of a once in lifetime thing. It really hurt them but that is because they do a good job of making the braids really tight to the head. Use sunscreen between the rows, but they say do NOT use conditioner on the rows as it will come out sooner. I think my girls wore theirs for about 2 to 3 weeks and got tired of it. I am sure it would have lasted alot longer but one thing is for sure, they set a trend back here at home. Lots of school mates started doing it too. Castaway Cay I hear is the best place to have it done as there is less chance of lice, etc.

she was only going to do it one time, and she wanted it to last for

awhile.. The woman did a fantastic job! I would definately recommend Castaway Cay.
