How much is acceptable for a value, moderate etc

It depends on what season you're travelling in. Generally we don't like to pay more then $100 per night for a value or $200 per night for a moderate but that's in a value season.

is that expensive for you. Is that what you typically pay for a value hotel elsewhere

Disney rates are , IMHO, are not comparable to non-Disney resorts. What you pay for a non value elsewhere would be lower. You are paying for " location" at WDW
maybe but I found a value at peak season is very expensive for a value

I don't ever use the terms value or moderate outside of Disney. Outside of Disney, I'm willing to pay up to $300 per night depending on where I am, but my comfort level is more in the $100-$200 range.
I consider value to be a 2 star moderate a 3 star deluxe 4 star?

I guess I don't consider a Disney Value resort a 2 star. I happily stay Value at Disney. I've stayed in a few 2 star hotels outside of Disney and all I can say is ick.....never again.

This. Although I will say I won't stay at value at Disney not because they are bad hotels but just because they don't have the amenities I like. Some people liken them to Motel 6 quality but that is so not true. They have all the quality of Disney just budget friendly and small but very, very clean and comfortable.

Outside of Disney I prefer to only stay at 3, preferably 4 star hotels. Moderates at Disney are nice, I'd prefer a deluxe but it's not in the budget.

I think the key for me is cleanliness. I've stayed in 4 or 5 star hotels that weren't as clean as a Disney value resort. I'd be happy anywhere on Disney property.

Disney's hotel categories don't map to star ratings, and they don't have any meaning outside of Disney. They only relate to each other, and they're not meant to be indicators of quality, like a star rating would be.

I disagree but anyway

Yep, the cleanliness cannot be compared to anywhere else. Even the values are spotless. For me it's the lack of amenities, ok ok it's the lack of a hot tub that gets me. ;)

This is a really subjective question. What is acceptable for one family may not be acceptable for another. That is the reason there are different resort categories and prices. Some may think the $100 a night for a value is acceptable some may think more, depending on the resort and their budget. Some may think $750-$800 a night for main building club level at the Grand is acceptable, others would never ever pay that. I will say I am willing to pay more for a room at Disney than I would anywhere else.

You can actually match Disney resorts to outside hotels by using a third-party rating system like AAA. Each year, AAA rates 28,000 different hotels on a scale from 1 to 5 diamonds. The AAA Five Diamond rating is exceedingly rare. Only 118 of those 28,000 hotels (0.4%) earned that distinction. The Four Seasons Resort at Walt Disney World is one of those 118 hotels. It really is in a different league.

While more plentiful, Four Diamond rated hotels aren't as common as people believe. Only 5.7 percent of inspected hotels earn a Four Diamond rating. From personal experience working in Four Diamond rated hotels, I'll say that it's not easy to maintain. The list of requirements is extensive.

For comparison, here is a list of WDW Resorts and other on-property hotels by rating. These are the current ratings announced by AAA on January 15, 2016.
