How much have members made on referrals?

Just curious... I know a lot of folks have been referring folks to get the 15% discount... just wondering how much some folks are making from the referrals.

I think I've referred about 10 folks.... unfortunately, I live in a state that doesn't give any "referral bonus" for referring folks that purchase. However, I did receive 3 $50 gift certificate for disneyshopping.com. That really helped with some of the holiday shopping!

Keep in mind that many of those asking for referral names are already in the DVC system and no reward may be available for the member. If they have already requested information thru the website or by calling or have already taken a tour (even if it was in the past), they are already in the DVC system and no referral reward will likely be forthcoming.

I'm sure a few have gotten the reward though and hopefully will report their success.

I don't think that's necessarily true.

I can think of at least one person who was already in DVC's system (and actively discussing a purchase with a Guide) who contacted me to serve as a referral. I've since received the $50 gift card vascubaguy mentioned, and the Guide told the buyer that I would also be in line to receive the full referral bonus.

The $50 gift card is a recent program with this incentive and is separate from the usual referral reward program.

Hope you get the full referral reward , as that would be a new variation from the way it has always been administered in the past.

We have referred at least friends to DVC and because they have already been in the system from 5 years ago or gave their name when visiting and never went on a tour or further their inquire, we were unable to receive any full referral rewards. dvc doesnt consider a referral if they arleady have their name in the system. whether the name was given less then a year ago or 10 years ago.

I understand that this is normally the case. But, with this recent promotion, a referral was REQUIRED in order to get the discounted price.

As I related above, an individual who had been discussing a purchase with a guide at the time the promotion occurred gave them my name mid-purchase, and I've already been rewarded to some degree. The message that accompanied the gift card read "Remember - if [name] decides to join Disney Vacation Club, you're still eligible to receive a Sharing The Magic Reward."

In developing a promotion tied to a member referral, I think DVC realizes they just have to bite the bullet and give the rewards to eligible members, as well as the discounted price to the buyer. While we understand how the system has functioned in the past, I'm guessing most members wouldn't be too happy being on the receiving end of a conversation that goes something like this:

"We understand that you referred your brother/sister/coworker/friend so that he/she could get the 15% off discount, but that 'referral' occurred after they had already previously spoken with DVC about a purchase, making you ineligible for a referral reward." Huh?

To answer vascubaguy's question, we've probably referred about a dozen people, too. I don't know for certain how many of those turned into sales, but I'm glad we were able to help folks take advantage of that great price.

Our state is eligible for rewards, but it's apparently capped at a level much lower than DVCs self-imposed annual max.

I was referred by my MIL and our guide told us that she would be receiving $200 worth of Disney Dollars. He also said that this could be put toward their dues.

Did you get the $50 card after the new member closed? I did refer my brother a few weeks ago- he did take the tour in March - also with my referral so they were in the system - they shoud be closing any day - but I have yet to receive any kind of acknowldement.

I did refer one disboard member - have also not received any acknowledgement from DVC/ or their guide.

Someone else just called for the DVD and happened to get my guide - she did send me a letter saying - thank you for referring them and that DVC is sending that party the dvd/info., etc. - I don't think they are buying - but again, only received this letter - was it because it happened to be my guide?

The $50 referral thing was given to members that referred people who then agreed to do the tour of SSR in person, or over the phone. I think the "tours" had to occur before Oct 31st. You would receive the bonus regardless of whether they purchased, they just had to do the tour. I think I received the gift card via email about 2 or 3 weeks after the tour was completed.

We were "in the system" and still were able to garner a referral bonus for a very nice member of the DISboards, who then shared that bonus with us.

We, too, were in the system for about six months before giving our "referral" name to our guide. We bought last week at the 15% referral discount of $83.30 pp and have already signed our papers and made payment 1 of 3, so I know the numbers are right. I don't have any idea if our referrer has received any bonus or even if TX is an eligible state. I certainly hope so, but don't know for sure.

One thing our guide did before we gave the referrer's name was mention something to the effect of "Well, the discount right now is $8 per point, and we don't have you in as a referral, but that's up to you. . . " I thought, "Ooh, yeah, buddy, I'll find me somebody if you'll let me!" :cool1: My next phone call to him started, "Hi, I'd like to add the name of my referral to my records. . ."

Could it be possible the person referred (referree??) gets a discount, but the referrer gets no bonus if the connection wasn't intimated at the beginning? I have no idea!

Thanks for clearing that up - just to add - when my brother took the tour in March and used my name - we were both in WDW for Easter - my brother's guide at the time of the tour told him that I would receive a dinner voucher and I never did receive one or followed up on it. Did not want to seem greedy.

RoyalCanadian -

Did you close? If you have, did you purchase immediately after the promo was out? My brother bought a few days after the promotion came out and still waiting to close. I have not received any acknowledement from DVC. I also told him I would split the bonus - if I get one - :confused3

I also told the one disboard member that I would be more than happy to share my referral bonus - again - assuming I get one - I should get her guide's name and follow up on it. I do not want to look bad. :guilty: :guilty:

I have no problem referring anyone with or without a bonus - I just hope they don't find a reason not to give one out. Both parties benefit even if it is only a few dollars. They should just have a "Holiday Sale" and decrease their price til Christmas :sunny: :sunny: - just kidding -

you are usally right doc but on this you are wrong.

We have referred at least 3 people who have bought, but Kentucky doesn't allow referral gifts. We have always just received a thank you letter or phone call. But the best thing is that we now have friends to travel with!

Well, two of the parties I have referred this year have bought in. For the first one I got a $200 referral bonus, which I sent on to the person I referred. Then I discovered that this will be taxable income, so I simply kept the $350 I got for the second referral. I was hoping with this program that one fo the others I had referred would buy in, so I could ramp up to the $500 and beyond level.
So, so far this year, I will be paying taxes on a total $550 on referral bonuses unless another referral closes soon.

But anyone living in an ineligible state, you can always have your referrals use those of us in eligible states (like me) as the referral, and we could always split the bonus (so we can cover our taxes and still have a nice little bonus).

We purchased our initial 150 points at SSR in January 2004, enjoyed a week there in January 2005 and then added 30 SSR points in March 2005 when my tax refund came in.

The 100 Disney Dollars our DVC friend gave us came in very handy when giving our daughter spending money for each day in the park and purchasing meals.

Tim, How come Ohio gets all the breaks ;) ..No such luck in Michigan. I do refer people though and always will just because I believe in the magic!

Haven't made a dime because I also live in a state where you can't get a referral payment. Too bad too, because for the number of referrals I've made, I could've retired if I had been receiving referral payments!!!!!!
