How much money would you give to aquaintences (sp??) for high school graduations and college graduations?? Have no idea what to give.

For me, it depends upon where the party is held. If its a backyard/home party, then $50. Last week three of us went to a graduation party held at a banquet hall, open bar, DJ, excellent food, etc. I gave $100. I don't know why the venue matters, I guess it shouldn't but, it does.

Get your flame suit ready.

I posted the very same thing last month(about sweet 16s,elegent 18s and graduation parties) and someone had a cow.:confused3

$50 for an aquaintance - $75 for somebody a bit closer to me and $150 if it's somebody really close like sibling, niece/nephew.

Stuff like this varies by region so just pick a number that feels right to you and go with it.

I'm from your neck of the woods - for acquaintances, $25-$30 is what is usually the norm for this area.

what about for a daughter/stepdaughter who you only see once a year, so aren't very close to. I was thinking $200, does it sound fair enough, or should we make it a bit more?

College or high school? Helping with college bills and expenses or not? I think that it depends what else you do for her along the way, etc. I am not sure that's a question that can be answered in isolation.

HS graduation, we pay child support, helped buy her a car, send her gifts for holidays, do what we can when we can. Haven't heard what she plans to do for college, like I said we only see her once a year and don't hear from her at all.

I gave my own dd 100 and my nephew who we are close with 50. Honestly it depends on what you can afford.:confused3

It sounds like you both reach out to her, and I would say that the gift you suggested is generous.

This is exactly what I was going to say...there are so many variables and a gift from the heart is a true gift. Anything out of your comfort zone whether you can afford it or not defeats the purpose.
We just gave my neice who graduated college $60. It's an odd number, but a little more than $50, which is what we can afford right now. I wish it were more, but I'm comfortable with it.

I think $25 for an acquaintance is perfectly fine!

We give $100 for a graduation, no party needed. That is for a person, like a neice, nephew or a close friend's kid. If it was just an aquaintence it would be less, most likely $25.

If it was me I would give more, if it was not a strain on my finances and I was not obligated to pay for college (some divorce decrees have college called out in them).
