How much for 9/04 rental-no more DC discount

I was always able to get decent National rental rates for midsize with my DC discount. I think we paid about 250. for just under 2 weeks last Oct. Now, since there is no more DC, I am at a loss. I'm not a member of AAA, don't have the entertainment book (but thinking of getting it), do have an AP, and am a member of Costco. I just looked up a midsize for 9/10-9/20 and came up with over 325. I used the Carlson code and EWEB. That's quite an increase. I always thought the earlier you book, the better the rate. Which membership would yield the best discounts, and am I wasting my time pricing now?

Actually, with rental cars, it seems to have been a trend that the closer you book, the better the deal. Just keep trying every so often and jump on a rate you can live with. But as with everything, prices go up, so be a little flexible. Maybe have in mind an average per day rate that would sit well with you. I know if you are there a week, then it's a weekly rate, but divide it out and see what it would be per day. Think about what you can live with and book it, then watch for any other deals.

Check out rentalcodes.com for the most current list of discount codes available for the various car rental agencies. Just be sure to read the small print under the discount - in case it can be used only with a certain credit card or union, etc. I've used that site several times and found some great deals. Try the sites with and without the codes to see which agency has the best deal for the time you're going. And, don't forget to keep checking the rates. They can go up and down about as much as airfare! You can always cancel and rebook if a better price can be found.

Use the coupons and codes from Costco. I have yet to get a good rate with the Carlson code. Also try www.vacationtravel.com They have a coupon and code also.
