Airlines say 1 carry-on per person. However, when we return from our vacations I always notice people have souvenier bags besides their 1 carry-on. What's up with this? is there a limit? do we stick with the 1 carry-on and bring along a souvenier bag?

I would stick with one carryon or less. It makes going through security much quicker for everybody.

You are allowed 1 carry on and one "personal item". The personal item is a briefcase, backpack, purse, laptop. Perhaps their souveneir bag is their "personal item". It is up to the airline personnel to enforce the rules, if a plane is not full they may look the other way on a souvenier bag, on the other hand they may not and force you to gate check the extra bags. Don't forget kids are each entitled to one carryon and one personal item, so big families can carryon alot.

The above poster is correct. Be prepared for seeing A LOT more security people at the airport since the Federal government recently took over the job. We found that things went a lot faster this time.

DW was just in New Orleans and it's one, let me repeat, just one carry on and it must fit in the little thingie. If you get to the gate they will only allow, one, let me repeat one, carry on. DW had to check her briefcase.
