How much does your insurance cover for prescriptions?

My husband is retired military so we have Tricare Prime. It is $425 an year. We have a $12 copay for doctor visits. I had back surgery last year (spent 1 night in the hospital) and the whole surgery cost us $25. For prescriptions, we pay $3 for generic, $9 for brandnames. Some brand names are $22 like my Enbrel. It only covers eye exams every other year so we do have vision insurance through my husband's company.

If we covered our family through his company it would cost us about $700 a month! Sometimes Tricare can be a pain but for the most part we are very happy with them!

I pay $370 a month for a family plan. We pay $4 for generic $10 for brand name. Office visits are $5 and ER visits are $25. No deductible.

I am covered under both Medicare (primary) and the Federal Employee Blue Cross-Blue Shield Plan. I pay about $150 a month for the BCBS.

For everything other than drugs BCBS will pay 100% of the Medicare deductibles and copays.

For prescription drugs, my recurring medicines are provided in 90 day supply by mail order. For generic, my first four prescription fills or refills per calender year are free, then $10.00 maximum each. For non-generic there is some large number (I think around 30) for fills or refills which are $65.00 each, then it will drop to $50.00 each.

I'm not really sure about how they compute the non-recurring, but just last month I had to get 20 capsules of an antibiotic and I had to pay 76¢ as my copay.

My kids are covered under my dh's plan

They have a 50 dollar deductible- 100 per family per year

Then we pay 20 percent or 5 dollars whichever is more for genericts/ no generics available

If we take a brand name then its 20 percent plus the difference between the generics.

We just battled about my dd's Adderall. It went generic over the summer but when we went to get the new script filled it was on backorder. The insurance ended up only charging me the 20 percent because it wasnt my fault.

Im covered by my own plan and I mine is a 15/30 copay

My family health insurance plan costs $36 per week and prescriptions are:

Generic: $3
Name Brand: $10
Specialty: $15

Right now,
$4 generic
$10 the rest.
We get about 10 prescriptions a month.
I think it is changing in Jan. I am afraid to find out

All of you with cheap meds-count your blessings

We have Blue cross high deductable. We pay almost 95% until our deductable is met-then around October of each year , the cost goes way down
My 3 scripss cost around $300 a month-Dh's cost around $100

At a retail pharmacy:
$5 for generics
20% for Preferred Brand drugs
40% for Non Preferred Brand drugs

Mail order for a 90 day supply:
$10 for generics
$25 for Preferred Brand drugs
$50 for Non Preferred Brand drugs

Wow! Some of you are very lucky.

Before a penny is paid towards our RX (and medical), we have to meet our deductible of $3800. That is the "cheap" deductible. DH and I have to have physicals every year and we only get the cheap rate if our blood pressure is normal (can't remember the number but DH and I have low BP) and our cholesterol needs to be under 160. Mine was 159 last time. One more point and our deductible would go up to $5800! :scared1:

If we meet our deductible, our insurance will pay 80% toward RX and medical care.

We pay around $1k/mo for family health and dental. Rx coverage is 80% after deductible. Our deductible is $300 per person. We are covered by Blue Cross Blue Shield, through Farm Bureau health insurance.

One thing our insurer pointed out, if you pay for Rx out of pocket, you are more aware of the costs of your meds - they are right, we are very aware of the $4, $10 drugs at various pharmacies, and try to get meds from one of those lists, instead of paying full $$ and waiting for a reimbursement.

I pay $160/month for mine and copays are 15/40. I insure my kids for $74 month and copays are 10/30. I'm not interested in paying $15K a year in the future for coverage I don't want or need...

:confused3 Not sure why you quoted me? I didn't mention anything about *potential future coverage.*

i pay $560 per month for medical coverage for myself/dh/kids. we have a deductable but it does'nt apply if we use preferred providers. scripts are $5 a peice.

yes, it's allot of money to pay each month but i consider myself very fortunate, the government employer i retired from just announced that anyone hired after december 31st of this year wil not be eligible to receive employer sponsored health coverage as a retirement benefit.

in the grand scheme of things what i pay is a drop in the bucket as compared to the costs 2 events in our household would have cost us absent our insurance or with one of the lower cost alternative plans (with higher deductables and co-pays) my former employer offers-

(1) an overnite stay (less than 18 hours) this past march for myself at a local hospital where i was tested/treated for a suspected stroke-$32,000,

and

(2) a VERY minor fall from a bicycle by dd 5 years ago-the first surgery to her arm ran over $40,000 (not including the tens of thousands in diagnosis, testing and treatments before), and she's had to have a second with 5 years of intervening oversight and treatment.

a friend opted to buy into the lower cost plan his employer offered with a 20% co-pay, his son had a major illness diagnosed the same week dd fell off her bike (may of that year) and by years end had amassed over $600,000 in medical bills. i don't know too many people that have $120,000 sitting around to cover these kinds of expenses:guilty:

Two experiences to share:

1) I used to be on my dad's insurance through his state of CA job. Blue Shield HMO, cost of prescriptions was a $5 copay for generics. I can't remember what the cost of brand-name drugs were.

2) I now live in the UK and use the NHS. Cost of prescriptions are £7.20 generally. Exceptions apply for birth control (provided free of charge) and people who are low income, children, and people who have certain health conditions receive their prescriptions free.

We pay $580/month for a family plan. Generics cost us nothing and name brands are tiered-I think the max is $65??

My plan is paid for in full by my employer and each prescription costs either

3.00
7.00
or
10.00
there is no deductible to reach.

We pay about $500 a month for our health insurance.

For prescriptions, we pay $50 for the brand name
and somewhere around $10 for generics.

Well, we just got my DH about $500 worth of meds for $15, so we do quite well. The insurance is through my employer and one of the top plans you can get. DH needs this medication monthly, so it's a huge savings.

My prescriptions are $10 for generic and $20 for brand name. I think that next year generics will stay the same price, but brand names will increase to $25.
