How much does plastic surgery cost?

I'm intrigued by the shows where people are having all kinds of procedures done. What do these cost? I'm sure it varies from one part of the country to another and from doctor to doctor, but I've been curious based on the lifestyles of some of the featured doctors how much they charge.

I had breast augmentation in June and total cost was $4200, that included all post op visits, etc. Best $4200 I spent.

It's closer to $6000 here. I want implants so badly, but they're just not in the budget right now. I agree with the OP. On these shows they make it look like it's no big deal to get plastic surgery.

This is funny that I ran across this thread today. I was just talking to DH last night about getting a nose job. I have ALWAYS wanted a nose job since before I was even a teen. It's odd looking and big, and I think as I get older it's going to get even worse. I told him that if I weren't married I would have gotten one already and would be paying on it. I asked him if there is ANY way I would ever be able to get one? My reasoning is if he can get a $3000 TV I can get a $3000 nose job. I also informed him that later in life I am getting a breast lift, and he has no say in that. I don't think he would be complaining about that one though... :rotfl:

My sister just went for her consultation, she's getting breast augmentation (implants) and a small bump on her nose reduced. The cost is $15K total.

A girl I used to work with just paid a little over $5000 to have her breasts enlarged and for liposuction...and that was with her nurse's discount. :faint:

I just paid $7900 for abdominoplasty and that included everything with an overnight stay in the hospital. Best money I've EVER spent. :thumbsup2

Did they also show the doctors taking MCAT's, sweating through microbiology, pharmacology, biochemistry, anatomy and physiology, getting grilled on the wards after being up for 36 hours straight, and studying endlessly for rigorous multi-day Board examinations that have to be repeated every 7 years?

Hmmm. Sorry if that reply was a bit harsh.

Just wanted to point out that doctors have to work long and hard and have a tremendous amount stress and pressure BEFORE they ever get to that stage of having a opulent lifestyle.

And there are most doctors who do not live like Beverly Hills plastic surgeons.

Plastic surgery is also not just about breast implants and face lifts. Its about repairing horribly dis-figured people that are in accidents, burns or have birth defects. It does tremendous amounts to their self esteem when they are restored as "normal" because our society is so based on looks.

I wish I would have went in that direction.

I am having breast implants removed on December 27th. They've ruptured (They were put in for reconstruction purposes after BC). I have paid not quite $5000. At this point, I am not doing another type of reconstruction. One of the reasons for this is the cost. It is too much money from my pocket.

I don't know about other parts of the country, but I had to pay up front. Even though this is a medical necessity and were put in following BC, I will have to file with my insurance after the surgery. Plastic surgeons here do not tend to accept insurance. Since most procedures they do are not covered, it is to big a hassle for them.

If you intend to have plastic surgery, be prepared to pay out of your own pocket.

It's okay...I've read some of the information on the website and it seems that many of these guys really aren't completed with all their schooling and residencies until they are well into their 30's.

had breast reconstruction using implants many years ago, but since it was paid by ins i don't know the cost. but the cost to repair the damage done by the implants can be very expensive and you may have to pay with your life.

to more pleasant plastic surgery. i had a nose job, partly to help me breath and partly for cosmetics. best thing i ever did for myself. not only can i breath but i look better.

next step, i recently priced a face life and it was over 5,500. the doctor said he did not want anyone to be able to tell that i had had surgery, just to make me look more rested. if i pay that much, i want it to look like something was done!!

i would have it all if i could afford it, my mother has had it all done and she looks great (she just doesn't want anyone to know so she will not discuss names or prices, she does it all in secret so we don't know who the dr. is or how much it cost).

My tummy tuck last month was $3500. This was discounted almost 50% because I had a hysterectomy at the same time. The cost broke down to $2100 for plastic surgeon
$1000 for anesthesia
$400 for hospital- operating room.

The cost is discounted with other surgery because the IV's, hospital stay, supplies etc are covered under insurance fo hysterectomy because you have to have those things for the hysterectomy.

I had just the opposite done back in '95 (health reasons). Insurance covered it (thankfully), but I almost had to pay a couple of thousands of dollars (in the double digits) because of a miscommunication. But I'm glad I made the decision to have it done. Plastic surgery can be expensive.

Just out of curiousity, anybody know how much a LAP Band (reduces the size of the stomach in order to help the person lose weight) procedure runs? Because if I were going to do plastic surgery, that's what I'd do. That and maybe a nose job. I've always hated my nose.

Please keep in mind that breast implants are only meant to last 10 - 12 years. I had mine done 17 years ago and they now need to be replaced. The surgery is scheduled for next Thursday and the cost for removal of the old implants, new implants put in, and breast lift is about $11,000. So, even thought the first surgery is only around $4-5K, remember that the second one will be over twice as much.

Cindy--I have excess breast tissue if you want it! :rotfl2:

Having always been a gal who's been well-endowed, I've never understood why girls want to go bigger. Heck..if I were smallish (say a B cup), I'd want to stay right where I was at. Nobody needs jugs bigger than their heads.

I had a reduction done about 2 1/2 yrs ago. My cost was $0, but it did cost the insurance company a lot of money (never received a bill so I have no idea how much it cost - would love to know though.)

I had a wonderful experience and it was the best thing that I ever did for myself.
