How much does party size matter...

when trying to make ADRs. In my case I have a party of two. I was hoping to pick up someone's cancelled ADR and when I called Disney Dining to get info I was told that he would not be able to give us the ADR because the original ressie was for a party of 4.

Also, does it make a difference if you are on a dining plan or not.

It definitely does make a difference because they won't reserve a table that will fit 4 people to a 2 person party. They won't make as much money that way. We are a party of 2 and have always been seated at a table for 2, never a 4-top! Luckily I haven't had too much trouble and I think the 2 person tables are in the best locations.

Not sure if it makes a difference if you have DDP. Don't think so.

they will break it down for you in the system.....unless by some chance there is a 10-top.....

but I know that restaurants TRY to put the 2 tops on a table for 2, but I never turned away a person trying to make a reservation for 2 on a 4 top....and nobody ever told me to......we just added a magical person to make the computer let us make the resie.....

I actually had a very strange party size problem trying to have the concierge make us a lunch reservation for CRT on our last trip. The concierge tried to reserve us a table, then said, "It won't let me reserve any tables for a party of 3." ??? (This was months before the trip, not last minute, btw.) He did a quick workaround by putting us in as a party of 4 - the three of us, plus an infant, who would be free. (We did not ask him to do this, he did it, then explained to us what he had done.) He told us to tell them we decided not to bring the baby into the park with us that day, and that we wouldn't have any trouble since the cost was the same. He said that at CRT they have almost no tables assigned for 3, so they often have trouble with booking parties of three there.

I thought it very strange, but we went along with it and it worked without any problem. But it is the one and only time I've ever had an issue with party size...

I don't want to condone lying, but the way the system works, 2 tops are hard to book. I worked at Chef Mickey's and we only have 3 actual 2 tops. However, all the time when I was checking people in at the podium I would pull up their reservation and it would say it was a party of 3 with 2 adults and 1 infant. When I would go to confirm this with the people they would look confused and tell me they were only a party of 2, no infant. So, Disney Dining was booking them as a party of 3 with an imaginary infant. This was the only way to get them in since all that was open was 4 tops.

I would not say never. My husband and I do get seated at 4tops when we dine at WDW as well as other places. I agree that they try to put parties of 2 at tables for 2 to maximize profits but they will seat a party of 2 at a table for 4.

I honestly think there's no rhyme or reason for their system. Take whatever you can get as long as there is no credit card deposit - then you will be charged a fee for the empty seats.

We had the concierge book us a table for four at the Tusker House last week. We are two adults, one child and one infant. When we arrived at the restaurant they had us down as a party of SEVEN!! That's what the restaurant manager personally reserved for us. It was the only table available.

I explained that the concierge made the ADR for us, I did not reserve the table for SEVEN! They said it was not a problem and changed it in their system. We were seated at a table for four.

There are flaws in the system, do what you can to get yourself a table.
