how much does it cost to get a wedding dress cleaned?

I had mine cleaned way back in the dark ages (1970's for a 1960's dress) & cost will depend on whether or not you want it stored in a safe box afterwards. Cost also depends on whether or not there's "paper" (pellon?) in the petticoat of the dress & I suspect beading would come into the cost too. Far too many things to determine & I'm sorry, I can't remember what I paid. Doesn't matter anyway.

I do recommend, though, that brides clean their dress asap after the wedding. Mine didn't turn out well & it did have underarm staining. Plus it did yellow with age & if stored safely maybe it wouldn't have. Good luck making your decision.

I got married almost 20 years ago so my cost probably isn't relevant. However I do recommend you call around and get a few quotes, check the BBB and online reviews too.

Also - very important - if you get it boxed - check the box to make sure it has a dress in it and it's YOURS. I've read several horror stories of brides who had their dress cleaned/ preserved/ boxed and when they went to look in the box (years later) found there wasn't anything in there or it wasn't their dress. Just a good thing to check IMO

I had to get one cleaned over 25 years ago. The cost depended on was there a train?, pearls? ect.

I borrowed my dress from a friend.

It had a long train that was detachable and tons of lace. She wanted it in a safe box afterwards. At that point in time, the cheapest I found was around 150.00 I think. But it was a gorgeous dress and totally worth it.

Do you want it just cleaned to wear.....or cleaned, boxed and preserved? There's a big difference in cost. If you just want it cleaned then it will cost in the area of $100. Preserving will be $250-500 depending on the length of the train and the intricacy of the detailing.

I also read some stories of brides who sent it in to be cleaned and preserved, only to open it years later to find they hadn't bother to clean it, just sealed it stains and all in the box. Sad :guilty:

I strongly suggest that you research some cleaners in your area before selecting one. The one with the best price may only be able to offer you the good price, but then shoddy workmanship. I spent a pretty penny on my wedding dress and it was very important to me that it was taken care of when it was cleaned.

I had mine cleaned and preserved 5 1/2 yrs ago and I got it through David's Bridal. At that time it was $99, including the shipping and everything. This last year I finally opened it up so I could try it on again (no longer preserved, but I figured what the heck) and they did an excellent job cleaning it. The bottom hem was really dirty from being outside and dancing, and it was spotless. I would highly recommend them.

you can expect to pay anywhere from 100-600$ be very diligent and ask lots of questions. Also read the cleaning guide on your gown some gowns will specify what cleaning process is required. Ask them what they do you really want a place that sends your gown out to a specialty cleaning facility that only does wedding gowns. you also want it packed in air tight packaging as well as stain proof materials. I think if you search on Martha Stewart she gives some advice on bridal gown cleaning but dont' just go for the cheapest cleaning find out what they will do to your dress.

I had mine cleaned, boxed up and preserved for $300. This was 2 years ago.

We borrowed my cousin's for a photography workshop (she was divorced and didn't care, LOL). We took that dress through downtown Detroit, Eastern Market, the people mover, etc. It was "trashed". The local cleaner charged me $75 to clean it.

Not bad and the dirt was gone!

I got married 5 years ago. I had mine preserved at Kleinfeld's in Manhattan since I bought my gown there too. If you go to their website there is a link to gown preservation. They restore entire gown (missing beads, pulled embroidery, tears, dirt, stains etc) and preserve it in a box that is same box used in Metropolitan Museum of Art to preserve their costumes.
The size of box depends on the size of your gown. Mine was huge! lol..
I paid about $500.00. Comes with white cotton gloves so you can handle dress, wrapped in acid free paper and instructions on how to refold it if you take it out of box . They recommend taking it out and checking it once a year.
My friend used an online service and they basically stuffed her large ballgown dress into a small box with a window. Destroyed her gown. Crushed the fabric so bad it could not be repaired.
I hope this helps!!
