OK OK OK.. I know that is a very harsh and personal question... but here is my point...

I am not a lightweight, actually I am a heavyweight... I have noticed that alot of us DISers are on the big side of the scale... I am tired of the world telling us we should weigh 120lbs no matter how tall you are... today's society is forcing skinny on us! I am large ( actually XXXL ) and I am ok with it for now... "Dr. Atkin's plan" is helping me get to XL, but I will never be a medium...

Fisney rides seem to fit us "normal people" so why the pressure to be skinny? Have you ever NOT FIT in a Disney atraction? I had that happen to me at a 6-flags park in NJ... but never Dsiney...

So I was wondering, how many of us are actually normal? based on the poll I am creating, are there more normal people in the high end of the scale? am I way off base here? Should I have never posted this???

Tell me what you think, then I will ask the webmaster to delete this thread forever if it get's too crazy....

I don't think there's anything with asking Nick! We ask all kinds of questions around here. Some questions aren't even meant to cause any trouble, but somehow they do! You should have seen the almost knock down drag out fight on the "toilet paper: hang it over or under" thread! I'm sure that person didn't mean to start a near brawl! LOL! I don't think there's anything wrong with asking this question or answering it! I'll vote on your poll, but only after many, many people have. LOL!

Funny that I won't tell my husband but I have no problem confessing to you guys :p

Actually, I'm 5'10" at fluctuate between 170 - 190. I know that sounds like a lot but I'm actually a size 10-12. I'm what you would call "big boned" :teeth:

I think it's hard to get an accurate result from a poll based solely on weight when height isn't taken into consideration.

I'm 6'0" and about 155 lbs. I'm very thin but if you just looked at my weight without knowing my height, that might give the wrong impression.

***edited to comment on the several tall girls who already answered here. Lots of us around, huh??! :bounce: ***

People are People. All different. Skinny and Fat. This is going to sound weird, but it's not always overweight people who get made fun of. That's more or less a stereotype. When I was in grade/high school I was very skinny....not because I ate too little, but because that was my body type. You wouldn't believe the amount of anorexic (sp?) remarks I got, and comments like "I hate skinny people". IMO it boils down to a person's self-image. Those comments never bothered me because I was comfortable with myself and healthy. It's just that others need to focus on other people's bodies to make themselves feel better.

As the OP stated I'm not in favor on "forcing skinny" on people (or fat for that matter) BUT, I do feel we should force *HEALTHY* on people. It's ridiculous to treat your body badly and if weight is slowing you down or putting you at risk for worse things then I say GET IN SHAPE. It not only affects you but those you love most.

Well, I am a shorty at 5' 9" :D I have weighed 135 for about 20 years.

BTW, "Normal" is a tricky word. In reality you should only compare you to your own normal. The word we should really use is "avarage".

Interesting news today, apparently when Dr. Atkins died last year he was over 250 lbs and had several heart problems. I just find it hard to follow his plans when it sounds as if he had several health/weight problems himself.

I am in with the majority hear so far within the 150-200 range. There are times when I see thoughs "recommended" weight charts and just feel hopeless because they seem so extreme.

Way to much which is why I am having gastric banding done in 2 weeks...my 2 friends already had it done last month (we were all going together but my approval came to late) and they are doing wonderfully.

I'm 5'5" and recently lost 110 pounds (see siggie below), and now weigh 123-125. I have had several people who knew me pre-weight loss make very rude comments to me: Why would you do this to yourself? Do you have cancer or something? Blah blah blah...I wish we as a society would quit judging people based on appearances (skinny, fat, short, tall, etc...) among other things, but I don't think it will happen anytime soon. It's still OK for comedians, tv, movies to make fat jokes, and even though I've lost weight for my own personal reasons and I'm much healthier because of it, I still don't find these jokes/portrayals funny--they're hurtful and wrong. This is a real sore spot with me. (Stepping off soapbox...) I try to love all people no matter what size and shape. Character and kindness matter most. Sorry for the diatribe...:worried:

I stepped on the scale this morning and I weighed in at 164. I'm 5'9 and just had a baby two months and maxed out at 188. I'm working my way back down to my regular weight of 135.

I've started another diet. this time because I have high BP and want to see if I can bring it down. My weight is up there and I'm 20 lb heavier than I was when I was pregnant!

I know that dieting is very hard and hope that maybe I can come off the BP pills if I lose weight.

I'm 5'5" and weigh 115 (size 4). I managed to lose a total of 58 pounds by cutting fat (except almonds & peanut butter  ) and meat/dairy out of my diet. I have no trouble maintaining, except when I don't eat the nuts, then I drop down quickly. I love raw almonds... :p

I think that as long as you are healthy then weight shouldn't matter, in a perfect world.

You can ask - but I'm not telling.

The last time DH saw my weight was when I was hospital about to deliver our oldest (he just turned 10). He wasn't supposed to see then!

And yes I need to lose weight - real weight. I'm not one of those complaining about not being able to button my size 8 pants.

I am 5'1" and 210 pounds. That makes me quite large for my height. I am reassured though, that large people have not had problems fittting into seats and attractions at Disney. Has anyone had any problems related to size at all?

I think, like the other poster said, this country needs to worry more about being healthy, and most people heading toward obesity are going to run into health problems, sooner or later. Contrary to other posters, I see this country as becoming a joke when it comes to our weight-50-60% of the people in this country are overweight-That's what is sad. Others say we need to work on "fat" acceptance-I say it is our "acceptance" that has created this situation to begin with.

I kind of take offense to the word "normal". Normal is different for everyone. I have a small frame, and I'm about 5'4". For me, being 140 made me look a bit heavy. I am not back down to 115, and for me, it looks normal. I look healthy, I work out and have muscle.
I agree with the poster that said we need to focus more on being healthy than "normal". As long as you're healthy, and comfortable, I see no problem!

5'4" and 140. My hubby calls me "curvy".

I'd much rather be eating

than doing any

.

5'6" 128. size 6 - 8 or 7 - 9. just depends how its made. been this size since i was 12, except for a few years in my anorexic days when i weighed 110 and my rib cage/shoulder blades stuck out.

When I was younger, I weighed about 98 lbs from age 13-17. People always used to accuse me of being anorexic/bulimec. Truth is, I was a ballet dancer since age 3, which kept me very thin. I also have a very high metabolism, as I can consume 3 slices of pizza no problem and not gain a pound.
Luckily, the taunting subsided as I got a bit older, and curvier.
I hate the thought of their being some kind of ideal weight, because everyones body is built for a different weight/shape.
