Has anyone out there ever actually measured how much they walked while in the parks? Or could even give me an estimate of how much they think?

Just wondering

Me and my husband are having a debate on how much you actually walk.

We have never been and our first trip is coming up. I said probably 2-3 miles but not more than 5. He says at least 10 miles a day.

TIA!!!!!

Between 5 - 10 most days, on the 10+ side at Epcot, closer to the 5 at DHS.

This past Christmas my wife and I walked over 65mi in a 7 day period. Epcot is by far the most walking you'll do. I would recommend bringing several well broken in pairs of shoes, and blister pads (mole skin) for possible foot blisters. If you don't start walking months before going, your legs won't last very long in the parks. Start off walking a mile or so and building up to 5-6 miles. Good luck!!

Using a calibrated pedometer over several trips, we've found that we will
usually walk 6 to 9 miles a day. 14 miles is the most we ever measured. Initially I found the pedometer was registering high; but was able to adjust it by using the quarter mile track at a local high school. We don't normally make any special preparations---I'm sure that fairly frequent trips have managed to get us ready for whatever comes. Guess I'm lucky on shoes. Take one pair of Rockports and have never had a problem.....I've even worn a brand new pair of Rockports without problems; so I'm sold on them.:cool2:

Last summer when I visited WDW I wore my pedometer each day, and I was gettting between 8 to 10 miles each day on it and that did not include the time we were at the water parks.
Sorry your dh is right on this one ;) Don't you hate it when that happens :)

I really do!!

Good thing it doesn't happen very often!!!:lmao:

I average 7-9 miles per day, but my record high was 21.8 in a single day.

 I love this thread... This was the same as my first post.... I asked the same question 3 years ago...

I would say we walked approx 10 to 12 miles a day.... Believe me, my legs and feet would pain each morning, but they would get used to the walk pretty quickly.....

The one day I actually kept track during my trip last March I walked just over 13 miles. I believe I was at MK that day.

Hopefully I'll remember a pedometer for my trip in 2 weeks. I gotta make sure I walk enough to justify doing all that eating on the Magic!!! ;)

And my co workers wonder why I go over there just for the exercise?? I was actually looking for my pedometer yesterday, and couldn't find it for our upcoming ventures over there, I couldn't find it, so I guess I'll have to get a new one!! Thanks for starting this, I was wondering myself!!

I wore a pedometer everyday on 1 trip and the shortest distance was about 10 miles and the most was 17.

For us, Epcot holds the record for most miles walked in one day. Last July, I spent an entire day there, and walked 16 miles!! Animal Kingdom comes in a close second at 13 miles, Magic Kingdom is third at 12 miles, and Hollywood Studios is fourth at 7 miles. :)

I wear a pedometer when we go and we average about 8-10 miles a day and so far the most was 13.7 miles on one day. The least was 6.3 miles.

I'm thinking of getting a pedometer for my trips to Disney, but I was wondering what people do with the pedometer when they're on a ride. Is there any way to 'pause' it or something? I imagine that the movement on a lot of rides might create false readings.

I've checked my pedometer on rides, buses, and cars, and it rarely registers any steps on them. I'm not concerned with any fals padding of the milage by rides. I think the fact that you're seated sort of pauses the pedometer anyway; the angle seems to prevent the little weight inside from clicking up and down.

Anotehr topic folks bring up is whether the many small steps you take in an attraction queue will falsely pad the milage. I don't believe they do; in fact, I think the opposite is true, because smaller steps, especially those where you shuffle your feet instead of taking a positive step foreward, often don't have enough vibration to register as a step on the pedometer. Thus, if you are stuck in a long, slow, winding queue, your pedometer may only register a small fraction of the steps you take.

We will be going on our first trip to WDW in 44 days! And wanted to thank everyone for their responses. I recently bought a pedometer at Target for only a buck! For those of you looking for a cheap one, you could check there.
I only hope my 62 yo dad can keep up with his bad hips/knees. Wish me luck!
