I just came back from getting my hair cut and it got me thinking. How much do you usually tip your hairdresser? A certain % or a certain $ amount?

I tip 20percent and maybe a little more depending.

I tip $10. I get haircut and eyebrow wax which totals $40 so I pay an even $50.

I tip 25% unless it's a really OUTSTANDING job than I go up.

I tip about 20%

My haircuts are usually around $40, so I leave $7-8.

My cuts are $50 and I give him $10. So I guess that makes my tip 20%. he's the owner but I've only had salon owners cut my hair and I have no problem tipping them for their work.

What do you think about tipping an owner...should they be tipped as much as an employee?
I ask this because an owner also cuts my hair...and I have tipped her the usual 20%...but honestly..I'm starting to rethink that.

As a side note..we own an collision repair shop...and there are times when a customer is happy with the job..and wants to tip the person who handled them..gave them the estimate...dealt with the insurance..and arranged pick up and drop off of the vehicle. My husband has been offered a tip...as well as my brother...and they refuse it..if it is insisted..they have taken it..with the understanding that the customer knows it will be used to buy the guys in the shop lunch...or something of that nature. It just doesn't seem professional to take a tip when you are also the owner, although it seems it might be different in different businesses.

You guys have me loving where I live now.

I pay $11 for a haircut.

The tip (that she asks for)? Homemade chocolate chip cookies.

I am going to be sure to make her a double batch next time!! :)

I was just at my stylist today. I got a color touch up and a cut (I leave with wet hair though, she doesn't blow it dry for me.)

Total cost was $70 and I tipped $10. If I go by the 20% rule, I'm shorting her $4.00.

Looks like I'll have to start giving her more.

However, several years ago when her services were only $40, I still tipped her $10.00 so I guess it all evens out!

Oh, and I tip the shampoo girl and additional $2.00.

Maybe I am dead wrong but I don't tip the owner but do tip stylists other than the owner. The owner charges more for her services so I thought that the tip was kind of built in to that excess. I noticed that the owner does not ask me if I want to close it out at $XX, but the other stylists do. I thought that was a bit of a clue as well.

The owner does my hair and stated that he doesn't accept tips. I tip the shampoo girl $5 though.

I usually tip about 15% to 20%, depending on the services. A cut doesn't take nearly as much time with my hair, but colouring takes nearly an eternity (what does THAT say!). I always tip more when he colours!
