How much do you spend on extra drinks when on DDP?

Not long until our trip now :cool1:and I'm trying to work out how much money we will need to spend when we are there so my question is:

When you are on DDP, how many extra drinks do you usually buy each day OOP? I know we will have the refillable mug for at the resort and we plan on buying some bottled water at the supermarket to carry in the parks. Thanks Jo

We bought very little. We refilled water bottles and got free cups of ice water... DH bought a beer in Epcot one day, but we didn't regularly have alcohol (too expensive!) or buy other drinks. We got a couple of bottles of fizzy pop over the course of the week when we were in the parks.

This question all depends on how much alcohol you intend to drink. Even one glass for two adults at every meal will make your spending money rocket. If you're just talking about soft drinks, if you buy bottled water you should need to spend almost nothing additional on drinks with the DDP and refillable mug. Do get the water though. We go through gallons in an August trip. My husband barely drinks at all. I like a glass of wine in the evening on holiday and the occasional pool side cocktail. I budget $150 per trip for alcohol and trust me that's not drinking myself into oblivion that's a couplE or less drinks a day. Alcohol is insanely priced at WDW. As we have a villa this year at OKW I'm buying some wine from the supermarket so have halved my alcohol budget :)

We usually buy a 24 pack of spring water, a fridge pack of coke and one pack of cherry sprite cans (from publix or walmart)
Water for the parks and cans for the room in case we're too lazy or tired to go down to the food court for a refill
If we run out of water, we sometimes refill the plastic bottles with tap water & water enhancer or we buy a gallon of water at a hess station or at a nearby store

Total must be somewhere around $12 for a 21 nights trip, party of 3

It will also depend if you have a car or not to go shopping
Ordering online will cost more because of shipping and minimum amount for the order (gardengrocers for example)

Remember that a snack credit will get you a bottled beverage
A Counter service meal comes with a beverage, so have them at hotels when possible and take a bottle of juice, coke or ice tea and use your mug to drink, so you save that bottle for later in the paeks. That's a bottle you won't have to buy

Great to know that you didn't buy too much extra. :) I was thinking that we could always get the free cups of water and pour them into our bottles to top up.

Thanks for your help. :) I don't really drink and DH is going to be our driver so we won't really need to buy any alcohol thankfully as it sounds like that could add up. We too are at OKW so I may buy some beers for the room in case DH fancies the odd one! I'm thinking the main things we may buy are extra soft drinks/slushes etc. We are generally planning to be in the parks for 3-5 hours at a time and I really don't know if one or two bottles of water we take with us each are going to last in the heat. I know we could use our snack credits to get the drinks but there are so many other yummy looking treats we could use those for! :cake:

Thanks, we will have a car so are planning on picking up the water, and maybe a few beers for DH! :) A great idea about taking away the bottles from the resort CS I've added it to my list of tips.

Freeze four bottles of water overnight and take two each. One unfrozen and one frozen. That will last you 3-5 hours with a drink with a meal as well. Personally I carry four bottles for me alone but last time I said that on here you'd think I'd said I torture fluffy animals for a hobby..........

yep a bottle of wine is around $40-$50 for the cheapest in disney table service = plus your $18 on top of that!!

We buy bottled water from Publix and that's about it. Sometimes we save drinks for later. For example we all got an OJ each with breakfast and they are pretty big. DH and I were just having coffee in the refillables and the kids shared one, so we put the other three in the room fridge.

Nothing spent on extra soft drinks when on DDP. We buy some alcoholic ones though ;)

We don't spend anything OOP in disney parks until all credits have been used (which hasn't happe yet) - at a CS meal in the park we will get one bottle of water for later and a large soft drink to share. We also grab a free cup of water whenever we want a drink and share it. I do not do carry anything in the parks and that includes drinks. We get one and share and throw away the empty.

This time I am taking a Britta water filter jug, and kettle as the Mrs does like her tea in the morning, but I am thinking of using the filtered water to take to the parks rather than use cash or snack credits on drinks.

We have never bought extra drinks on the ddp. We use the refillable cups whilst at the resort and use the water fountains in the parks. We do tend to choose a bottle of water once a day with our meals and refil that at the fountains, also ask for ice water at the carts. We spend next to nothing on extra food and drinks in Disney.

Yes thanks, I was thinking we would probably take 2 each - one cold, one frozen just like you suggested. :)

Wow - that's a good reason not to drink!

Thanks. There are 5 of us so there will probably be times when we could share and take the other drinks away with us. :)

I'm a kitchen sink kind of girl so don't think I'd cope with carrying nothing:rotfl2:. I think maybe we'll follow your plan and just use credits until they are all gone as it would be a bit of a waste to spend loads OOP and then find we get to the end of the holiday with credits left.

Wow, I'm not sure I could find room in the case for a filter and a kettle but I do love my tea too. :goodvibes

lovely thanks - it's definitely looking like we won't have too much extra to spend on drinks. We will have some extra food to buy as I have 16 TS credits of meals booked and only 14 sets of credits but am hoping to minimise the extra cost by paying OOP when my two oldest children (disney adults) want to eat children's meals so their adult meal credits can be used elsewhere.

We paid oop for our (Disney adult) daughter a few times on our last trip, in fact everywhere that wasn't a buffet. The kids meals come in at $8-10 dollars from what I remember, so it was far better value for us to pay that way, then we all had a bonus meal later on. Works a treat.

Keep in mind that the biggest extra expense will be on tips for table service meals. This really racks up if you do any sig meals At flying fish our bill was about $450 for 4 so although the meal was covered the tip was ooch!

Thanks. It's good to know that this works well :) Looking at the menus I don't think we will do it at every non buffet meal but there are certainly some where I think they will prefer the children's options.

Yes I've budgeted a huge amount for tips. I went through the menus to get an idea of the maximum price for each meal to get an idea of what the tips might be and it was certainly ouch!:crazy2: On the bright side, I budgeted using the most expensive things on the menus and we are unlikely to eat those at every meal so we should have a bit spare from that budget for extra souvenirs. :)

Tip,

Buy a few bottles of water AND a One Gallon Container at Publix or WalMart

Top up empty bottles with water out of 1 gal container THEN on Next Trip to Publix or Walmart

Re Fill the 1 gall container for 30 cents ( At Dispensing Fridge at Exit Door , Publix , or at Machine by water section . WalMart )

A Good bottle of wine ( 2 lt ) can be bought from $ 8 upwards at both supermarkets

Thanks. That's a good tip. :)

yep it annoyed me that our DD10 was 10 by 1 week!! and she eats next to nothing

the only time we had to pay (rather than free dining plan) was at Crystal Palace on our last day - as we were off site
I used the 'free' $200 gift card to pay for that so considered it a bonus DDP meal! :)

I meant 18% on top for the wine not $18!! :) when we went to Grills Seafood deck it was refreshing to see wine at a more reasonable $19!!

But a gallon bottle of water is only 79c in the first place so not a big money saver!
