How much do you pay your housekeeper?

Not sure, wife pays the bills. Only once a week though. When the kids were younger 6 hours 5 days. That was a good bit.

Many housekeepers do claim their money, though, and do pay taxes. Mine always did.

I know plenty are paid under the table. I was just trying to point out that $40 for three hours of work as suggested by another poster, wasn't necessarily generous--that there are a lot of expenses that the poster might not have thought of.

Many do and MANY do NOT. In my experience mine NEVER have. I try not to get involved in payment because I know how my house looks when they come and my size. One girl might be faster, one slower, one house needs more detail, while one doesn't. It is all individual with pricing, kind of like taxes...Thats all I was trying to say. Nothing to get anyone upset over, it was an opinion...

I guess you assume that since your girl Sophie doesnt pay taxes that no housecleaner pay taxes?? Thats seems like an odd assumption.


One of my girlfriends cleans houses here in NH. She gets between 20.00-30.00 an hour for cleaning depending on what she is doing. She does pay taxes and brings all of her cleaning supplies. She has more people that want her to clean than she has time for!

Off topic, but many, many years ago, I babysat a couple children here at my home. I paid taxes on my meager wage. Not all independent workers don't pay taxes. Of course many don't, but not all!

I try NOT to assume anything. I go off the information I have and what I know through my circle of friends. After this thread I did ask 3 of them who also have housekeepers and they to pay the same way I do.

I HONESTLY think that is great your girlfriend is busy. In this economy it seems that one of the first perks to be taken away was the housekeeper's job. So if she is busy more power to her. Same goes for Sophie, she isn't even taking on any new clients she is so booked. SO I guess your friends clients are lucky to have her as I am with Sophie.

I realize there are some that pay taxes, however I personally believe IN MY OPINION that is minority. Many want that money free and clear. And you know what it doesn't bother me, I personally don't get involved in that...

My grandma pays $65 every other tuesday for her housekeeper to clean for 3 hours. She vacuums, dusts, mops, and cleans the bathroom. Her housekeeper is my best friends mom.
