Curious what the going rate is. Don't vote if you are related to your babysitter and that impacts how much you pay them.

I put $14 - $19 because that’s how much my daughter’s usually make (except for one family who pays $10, my 20 year old started babysitting them 5 years ago, and now they pay my 18 year old the same). I paid $12 plus tip, but that was over 10 years ago.

$25 an hour is what DD was paid a few years ago. There would be anywhere from 1-4 kids, but none of them were any trouble at all. Best job she could have hoped for.

My sister is a nanny. She a retired teacher/principal. She has two kids, one who is in middle so she just provides rides and help As needed and an early elementary age who she helps with school and then plays with and gets to sports and such. She gets $20 an hour, a credit card to pay for their needs and she is paid even if the kids end up away for the day or they take vacation. She adores the children and the job.

$15/hr but she is a nurse and I've known her since her birth. Anyone else would probably be more like $12.

When we had a daycare teacher sit for us they charged 15 an hour for 2 kids. Haven't had any sitters since my 3rd was born so not sure if it would be higher. A teen I'd probably do 10-15 an hour when I'm ready to have them watch my kids (I don't do teen sitters for infants) since the daycare teacher was much more highly qualified.

I was 15 the last time I was a babysitter. I was paid 50 cents an hour. Just checked to see what that was worth with today's money. It was $4.28. Boy was I underpaid. :)

I have no need of babysitters anymore, but I would not pay a teenager more than $10 an hour unless there were more than two kids.

I haven't needed a babysitter in about 5 years but I think I paid between $12 and $15 an hour depending on the situation. I had a nanny for a while and paid her $300 a week for a couple hours of after school care 3 or 4 days a week. That seems too low now.

I didn't vote because I don't want to skew the results. The only time I paid a babysitter was in 2005 and her rate was $10 per hour. We never did it again. It was just not in our budget to squeeze out a date night and pay a sitter. Any other time, I used my parents to babysit, a school sponsored Christmas Shopping for Parents Night or just her regular, full-time babysitter while I was working.

Minimum wage here is $14 an hour so would be hard to find a babysitter for only $10.
I think it would depend on the kind of sitter. A teen who is not old enough to get a regular job may be happy with the $10. An older teen who could make more money on a regular job probably would not be as likely to accept.

Under the table certainly, since minimum wage, at least in California, applies.

Because we all know those hiring babysitters and collecting W4s, withholding taxes, and submitting to the government.

You aren’t taking taxes out. And minimum wage here is 7.00
As Indendent contractors it is the workers responsiblity to pay any taxes that are due. But you would have to do a LOT of baby sitting to hit the level where you even have to even file taxes. When I was a teen and working for businesses, I always claimed an Student Exemption from withholding. Chick Fil A made news here a few years back because they raised their training wage to $17 an hour. 16 years wouldn't work for minimum age.
