How much do you pay to get your pet groomed?

I pay about $35 for each of our Bichon's, a little extra if they have mats.

I also didn't know tips were expected. I don't really even know who does the grooming, I drop them off at the front and get them back later that day.

I pay $38 for my westie to be bathed and groomed. I always tip especially since I know my doggie is a handful. Luckily one of the groomers understands and likes westies and usually grooms her.

I had no idea I was supposed to be tipping the groomer.

We pay 28 for the total and give 2 for the tip.

I am a dog groomer who works out of my own kennel. One complaint I have is that many folks feel if you are working from home, they don't need to tip. A year ago I raised my rates by 10% because of this. Don't forget to tip, even if it IS a business run from a home. There are still overhead costs, and because I am not in a mall, I feel I should not charge as much.

I had no idea that an owner of a kennel would also expect a tip. In the "old days", owners of salons, etc would never expect a tip. Only the employees would be tipped. I take it that has changed????? It must have if you have raised prices by 10% to accomodate yourself. Now, if someone gives you a tip, do you give them a discount of 10%? I would think that would be the fair thing to do as you have now set your prices to include a tip.

I doubt it has changed. I was thinking the same thing.

Only one person mentioned the "glands." I was curious, is that a standard grooming service, because I read in some book or article that you have to go to your vet to have that done (or, unthinkable to me, do it yourself!), but I had also read a groomer could do that. Maybe that accounts somewhat for the price differences?
