How much do you pay for texting?

Right now we have AT&T. We pay $99 for 750 shared minutes a month with 3 phones - $20 of that is for texting on one phone only. No access to the internet or emails. My son is graduating this month and I wanted to get him a cell phone, but I hate our plan. It is so boring. What is the point in giving a teenager a cell phone if he cannot text with it? The $20 we pay per month is from my daughter (23) who texts. I and my other son do not text. He would, but my husband won't pay for it. Before we get another cell phone on this terrible plan, please help me find something better!!! My sister has a TracFone and texts often - she pays like 3 minutes for each text. Not sure how that works.

We have ATT and we pay $30 for unlimited texting for everyone on the plan.

Ditto $30 on for unlimited texting for all family members. We currently have 3 phones but I've been told I can get texting for up to 5 phones for this cost.

we have a 550 minutes a month plan with unlimited texting with AT&T, and, if i'm not mistaken, the texting is an additional $20.00.

We use Virgin Mobile. DD has the $26/month plan which is unlimited txt and data/web, and 300 voice minutes.

I use the "As You Go" plan, which is $20 every 90 days (avg. $6/month), data/web is available but I only use txt and voice.

They have many phones now, droid phones and blackberry too. Blackberry is $10 extra/month I think.

I pay a little under 2 cents/text.

I have a Net10 prepaid. I usually get the 600 minute/3 month card for $45 which works out to $0.075/min for calls. My phone came with a deal for .25 minutes/text. It works out in the end to be a little under 2 cents/text. I try to buy my cards when ShopKo has 10%, it isn't much, but it wipes out the additional cost of the sales tax.

My biggest complaint is that I have problems when my friends with smart phones try to send me something other than a plain text. Also my one friend has a Verizon smart phone and about half of her texts come through as two texts even if they are just short one-liners. For the amount of texting I do, it isn't a big deal. If it's just a plain old text message with nothing fancy it works great!

We have Virgin Mobile and we pay $26 a month for 300 minutes, unlimited texting, and unlimited web. We only bought the $59 phones so they are not that great for websurfing but we don't really use that much.

We like Virgin Mobile very much, we switched from Sprint early this year and have saved a ton of money and love their service.

Normal month I pay nothing. I don't have a texting plan. But if someone sends me a text or I text someone they are 20 cents each. I have never spent more than $5 on texting on any month.

Yiii! These are pretty much the rates I was paying with Verizon for 20 years!

I was able to get more and pay less by choosing Virgin Mobile. My only regret is that I didn't jump ship sooner.

Texting costs the cell phone providers absolutely nothing to provide....this is the biggest money maker for them by far...paying 20-30/month is a lot to pay. The unlimited plans like StraightTalk have are the best options.

I use Straight Talk. $45 a month - unlimited everything. Couldn't be happier.

My wife has a Straight Talk phone and we buy the $30 card each month at Wal Mart. With tax, her bill each month is $31.80 and includes 1,000 minutes and 1,000 texts. She doesn't get anywhere close to using those allotments. It's the cheapest plan we have found.

We just switched from Sprint ( $70 a month for 750 shared minutes and 300 text each on 2 phones- and free nights and weekends) to Straight Talk.

We are not doing the unlimited for $45, instread we are doing the 1000 minutes and 1000 text per phone for $30 a month each. The nice thing is, if we find we need more, we can get the $45 card without having to change plans. And if we use up all our allotment, we just add the new card a few day sooner.

We have two phones ( both MyTouch 4G's) with T-mobile and we use the app Text Plus which is a free texting app. It works great!

Family of five, unlimited text, unlimited data and 1500 minutes between all phones (we do get free nights and weekends, free cell to cell) for $200/mo Two phones have insurance on them that is figured into that, so it's closer to $185/mo. Sprint. My husband receives a 22% discount because of his work, from the research he has done, we have the best plan out of his circle of friends. They all pay more than we do.

Have AT&T with 5 phones (4 iPhones). Have the 550 minute plan, added unlimited texting to all phones on plan for $30 a month. My dad doesn't text but my dd and sil text out the wazoo and dh and I text a few times a day overall.

We have verizon, and have unlimited texting. I don't know what it costs at this point (with 5 of us on it, 2 data plans), but I can't imagine NOT having unlimted texting - even I text much more than I call (and we have the minimum amount of minutes, and never come close to using them).
