How much do you pay for dental fillings?

I took my 5 yr old DD the other day. She had 2 cavaties filled.

One was $165.00 and the other was $140.00. They were on 2 of her most front teeth-that will probably fall out next year.

Does this sound expensive to you?

that's about what we would pay if we didn't have dental insurance. we don't have kids though, so i don't know if there is usually a different price scale for them.

Yes, our dental insurance will pay most of it-what is reasonable and customary. This just seemed beyond what we have ever paid before.

Thank goodness for dental insurance.

Yes, it's expensive. Are you saying they filled her "baby teeth?" I took my DS (7) to the dentist and they filled two of his baby teeth and it came to $468.00, I almost fell over when I saw the bill. Dentistry is more expensive then I remember it being, LOL!!!!!!!!

Yup, they were both baby teeth. We probably should have just waited for them to fall out.

Dental work is definately getting expensive.

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one that's had this experience. The dentist also wanted to pull out two of my son's front teeth because he grinds them in his sleep, I wouldn't have it done (too expensive to pull, I thought, for baby teeth) and guess what? They both fell out on their own within two months, so glad I didn't shell out the money to have them pulled.

No, this is a family dentist.

I just had a crown and it was $800. Our insurance only paid half.

Mine too is just a family dentist. They are just getting outrageous in their fees. My dental insurance (Unicare) doesn't pay much either so the bulk of these fees I pay out of pocket, yuk!!

I have had a few fillings recently, and the price really seems to vary according to the size of the cavity and what tooth is involved. I had a filling last year that was about $200, but I had three micro-cavities filled this year that were $120 each. My dental insurance covered 80% fortunately. Dental costs really are outrageous. I had a crown replacement last year that was about $900!

I totally agree that dental costs are outrageous!! DH went to the same dentist and needs a root canal, they told him it would cost $1,797.00 (for one tooth) all of which we have to pay out of pocket, yuk!!!

I had a small cavity filled last month. It was $95. Broke a molar several months ago and had it rebuilt with cavity-filling rather than have a crown and it was about $275. That was rebuilding half of the tooth above the gumline. No dental insurance so happy to see my dentist seems to be "reasonably" priced.

I am going to make you all jealous now. I live in the UK. A filling would usually come to between $30 and $80 approximately, depending upon your dentist. My son worked as a CM at Epcot last year, and if he had needed dental treatment in the year he was there it would have been cheaper for him to have flown home to the UK seen a dentist and then flown back to the USA again.

The white front fillings cost more than the silver ones in the back. I think that price is pretty much in line with what our dentist charges. My youngest son (the only one of mine to ever have a cavity) had two fillings in baby teeth. I can't remember all the reasoning behind it, but it made sense to me at the time. I think you need to get rid of decay asap b/c it can lead to gum disease and other problems.
