how much do you leave Mousekeeping?

I really don't care if anybody tips or not but pay for Housekeepers at Disney is about equal for non-skilled labor for all jobs at Disney. They seem to start at about $8.70 an hour and probably earn every penny in wages and tips they receive.

I'm just always a little curious as to why people tip Housekeeping because of the low pay, but they don't tip that Dude who hands you the 3D glasses at the Muppet show. He's likely not making much either.

To answer the OP, I generally don't tip housekeeping in any hotel unless we've caused some sort of mess outside the typical room cleaning tasks. When the kids were little, that happened often.

The reason I tip Disney Mousekeepers is because they're cleaning toilets, making beds, vacuuming, etc - not just standing there with a featherweight pair of glasses in their hand. One is physically involved, the other not so much.
Now if you had asked why tip Mousekeepers and not the park janitors - I wouldn't have a good answer for you...

I will give you a great reason -
Custodians in the park could get fired for taking the tip. We had to adamantly refuse three times before we could accept a tip. But really if a manager walked in and saw you accepting it they couldn't prove you declined it already, so I never took a chance (we had a couple managers on power trips in the Magic Kingdom that would have had a field day with that).

$5 per day for DH and I. We are now DVC and tip the same.

Why? You only get housekeeping on the 4th day. Why tip for the days they didn't do anything?

I don't see why one would tip at Disney if they don't at other hotels.

I always have tipped at other hotels, too I don't see why anyone wouldn't tip at regular hotel or a Disney hotel, makes no difference

I do $5/day but we are a family of 4, including 2 messy kids and we usually have a family suite, so it's a big room. Even though housekeeping is not a tipped position, I still generally tip in any hotel I stay in. I am sure every bit counts for the housekeepers and it must be a tough job.

My sister did a stint in Mousekeeping at the All-Star Sports (Touchdown) while she was in the CP. She had horror stories about some of the messes she had to clean up. I always tip. In general, I leave the tip at the end of the trip with a handwritten note.

We did it at the end but then someone pointed out that if the person who had done our room all week happened to have our last day off, we would be tipping the wrong person. We leave it daily since that. I feel kind of strange traveling with so many $1 bills!

We tip a $1 a person at every hotel we stay at - Disney or not. We make "Mousekeeping" envelopes to put the tip into when we stay at Disney.

It's called appreciating a persons hard work. You know if I can make a little magic happen for a housekeeper by tipping $5 a day I will do it. I like choosing to spread kindness and not just always think about me, me, me. Buy the person behind me lunch in a drive thru, a coffee at Starbucks, leave a roll of quarters at a nearby laundromat, dog bones at the dog park. Kindness people, kindness

I've never understood housekeeping to be honest. I don't have anyone cleaning my house every day so I don't need anyone cleaning my room.

No its called doing the job you were hired for at the wage you were hired for and are taxed on. They don't get paid as a tipped wage like a server. They get paid like the park housekeeping people and other workers, do you tip those cleaners everyday?

Paying for someone's coffee or helping someone with their luggage is kindness.

I would only tip if they had to do something outside of their normal duties. A great example is the PP who had the sick child. Otherwise, I consider the salary they agreed upon when they accepted the position sufficient. It's built into my room rate. It's not the same type of position as waitstaff where tipping is customary. Call me cheap, but it seems silly to be expected to tip. Where is the line drawn? The teller at you bank controls your finances while only making $8-$10/hr. Do you tip them for doing your deposit correctly? Your cable installer probably doesn't make a ton, but they are crawling under your house sometimes to do their job without a tip. I dont judge those that do tip. I'm sure your generosity is greatly appreciated, but I don't think those who choose not to tip hotel staff should be looked down upon.

We skip it a few days during the trip. Usually we just need it to have the garbage emptied, and maybe a change in towels once or twice. I've read some people just request a bag be left on their door with supplies and skip the room cleaning? Not sure how this is done exactly.
We just got back from a trip to Vegas and you could call everyday before 2 am and request no housekeeping. You got an $8 voucher good for any restaurant at the hotel. I thought that was a nice perk.

I do 5.00 in the morning and 3.00 at turn down. I know it is a job I sure wouldn't want to do and we always come back to a perfect room. I am happy to do it...

I tip 5 dollars a day and I tip everyday because you may not get the same mouse keeper everyday so by waiting until the end you may wind up tipping the wrong person. I really don't understand why people don't tip it's only a few bucks and it is a kind gesture that helps someone who is barely making minimum wage.

I always assumed others always tipped before i came to the dis boards. What's a few dollars to help a maid take care of there family and themselves. I can imagine all the gross things they come across. Some people have the attitude well if I don't have to clean it up who cares.
