How much do substitute teachers make in your school district?

When I subbed in CA, I made $105/day. At the school in which I worked, the teachers were required to obtain their own sub. The teachers would call me personally and then they would have to submit it to an automated system. I could have made a full-time job out of subbing. I was fortunate enough to be first on several teachers lists. If you are a good sub, the teachers will always try to get you back. I have a 4 yr degree but do not have a teaching cert.

We currently live in AL. The rate here is $55/day. I haven't applied to sub yet. I can't wrap my head around doing the same work for almost 1/2 pay. It is some silly principle thing.

In the district where I work teachers make $100/day.

On a side note, I live in Palmyra now but just moved from Jonestown two months ago.

$108 a day - certified only. In our district, we can use not-certs as "emergency subs" if there are no certs available. There are WAAAY too many unemployed teachers for that to be an issue here. There are more layoffs happening this year so the sub pool will get even larger.

It is competitive to sub here - easy to get on the list, not so easy to get jobs. You have to know people who will request you to get you started. Requests are the only way to get a job because otherwise you have to be online competing for jobs the second they pop on the screen.

I think sub pay should be higher here since it's basically the same pay as working as a para, but they don't need to raise it when there are so many of us desperate to do it.

Here subs make $50/day, certified teachers make $71/day, and $91/day for 20+ consecutive days as the same teacher. It doesn't seem like much now that I see how much other areas pay subs.

I'm in suburban Chicago. Our subs make $90/day for the first consecutive 20 days. On the 21st day, the rate goes up to $226.99/day and they get a lump bonus of $2,739.80 ($136.99 x 20 days - retroactive to the first day).

DD is subbing in a different district right now and is only getting $90/day. Although she is a long-term sub until the end of the school year with a degree (SpEd~LBS1), the district that she is in does not increase the daily rate until 90 days!

I'm in Williamsburg, VA. I am a sub and I make $80 per day, long term begins on the 30 day mark, kicking the pay up to $95 I think per day.

Anyone can sub here-for $50 a day. If you have a teaching license it is $100. I was a long term sub last year for 6 wks and got $150 a day.

wow...thats barely minimum wage, isn't it? I subbed for several years when I was working on and just after I got my certification, and subbing is a very tough gig to make so little $$.

When I subbed, the rate was something like $48 a day (early 90s) but if you subbed more than 40 days in the school year you got $63 a day for each day over the 40th (total for the year, not for a long term position). Long term positions were considered in the same class for more than 30 days, and you got somewhere around $125 for that.

Wow...those rates of pay are insane!

I'm from Nova Scotia and I work as a sub full-time, which means I work just about everyday but of course don't get paid for professional development days, holidays, sick days, etc.

The rate of pay per day is $160.00. Long-term subs get about $234 (something weird like that, might be $243 but I don't feel like searching through my pay stubs!). You have to work 21 consecutive days in the same position to be a long-term sub, and you also start getting sick days after 21 days (1 for every 10 days worked). I think after 31 you get health benefits, but I could be wrong on that (I've bought into our plan separately anyway).

You need to be licensed to sub here (a four year university degree + your teaching degree). And there are LOADS of subs.

I'm in Western Wisconsin and get $100/day. After 15 consecutive days it goes up to $125 I believe. We have Aesop so many people are watching that daily. I've been subbing for 6 years in this district and am requested frequently. They just ask their secretary to call me and she puts it in the system. I really like it that way and so do they.

One of my schools is $75/day, the other is $68 (with a subject degree but not a teaching certifice).
