We have never ventured into the world of Pin Trading... but just in case DD or DS want to start... what is the price range of pins at WDW? :confused3

We didn't do the pin thing...but we did buy SIL one while we were there. The average looked about $6...a few cheaper, some more. Depends what you get......the little we shopped for them tho, $6 seemed to be the average. IMHO

I think they start at $6.50, and a lot cost that much. Limited edition ones are more. Hope this helps.

I think the cheapest ones are $6.50 and they go up from there. If the kids get into it, buy yourself some of the $6.50 ones to use for trading with the CMs. If you see a CM with a green pin lanyard they can only trade with kids.

The CMs have to trade with you unless they already have a copy of the pin you're trying to trade to them.

One warning, if you get started you won't want to stop!

We were there April last year and got a "Stater kit" (The Princess one but they had a few styles to choose from) This included the necklace with a badge , a few charms on the bottom and 3 pins - I believe it was about $25. Single pins can run anywhere from $4 and up. My DD 4 at the time had lots of fun trading with CM's. Looking for pins to trade while we were in long lines kept her busy too!! 30 days and counting to our next trip!!

Yep, they start about $6.50 but they can go up, especially if you get into the Disney Auctions site, where you can pay near $50 for a pin at times..

I think a small pin trading collection would be good for a child because it would help with shyness. They have to get used to talking to people and asking to trade pins.

Pins start at $6.50 and can go up from there. The limited edition pins usually run about $10.50.

This sounds like fun. Where do you get the starter kits from? Can you buy them online, or can you only get them from Disney World?

Thanks!

Pins in the park are $6.50 and up. We bought a lot at the Character Premier store at the Premier outlets. They have a pretty good selection that sell for $2.99 with a limit of 24 per day ;) Also, Disney Direct usually has a 1/2 price sale a few times a year where I have bought some good sets for trading.

The Starter kits are available anywhere they sell pins at WDW. They have several different ones, such as Princesses, Pooh, Lilo and Stitch, Mickey and friends, etc. The starter kits are about $25 and include the lanyard with special character on the end and 4 pins... 2 of each, so you can keep 2 and trade the other 2.

The best way to start pin trading is to buy pins on ebay before you go. If you put in ,Disney Pins Lot , tons of auctions come up. You can get pins for trading for $3-4 or cheaper if you buy a large lot. Just make sure to email the seller and ask "Are any of these pins Sedesma and are they all tradeable>" Don't worry about what pins you get since you plan to trade anyways.

I have bought pins this way 4 times and always been happy. When you get to the parks purchase the starter set so you have a lanyard and a few more pins. 10-15 pins may sound like a lot but after you start trading you will find that very quickly you run out of traders and want to buy more and once you are at the parks $6-10 is the price you will pay for each pin.

This is a relly fun thing to do at the parks!

I wanted my two DGDs to enjoy the fun of pin trading on our trip in November. We had no pins to start with. I bought two cheapie lanyards and then bid on the cheapest lots of Disney pins I could find on eBay. There are LOTS of pins on eBay, and you need to scroll thru to find the best deals. I paid $10 for lots of 4 pins and started each girl with 8 pins. Within the first hour of our first day at WDW, they both had the hang of trading. It was a lot of fun for both of them (7 + 10). One DGD was also celebrating her birthday and was wearing her Birthday Buttom from Guest Services - two CMs allowed them to trade 2 for 1, and one gave her a pin just because. The older one kept trading to find Jessica pins (can you guess her name?) and the other was collecting characters in modes of transportation (e.i. Donald in an airplane, Mickey in a car). DH and I have a trip planned for next October and we'll be taking back the pins and doing our own trading.

It's very addictive. Both my kids have full lanyards and hats that they wear with pins on it. We have made the pact to only take pins to the parks that they are totally willing to trade so that when we get back to the room each night there is no crying that they don't have their favorite pins.

Sorry... One more PIN question.
Do they have to say Disney anywhere on them... on the back or anything?
My cousin said she has a bunch of Disney pins that she would let the kids take with them... but she got them at a yard sale?

The pins must read Disney (c) on the back.
The only exception I have seen is when the Disney (c) is on the front. But that is very unusual. Almost all read Disney (c) on the back.
Many of the cheap Ebay pins are from Spain (Sedesma pins). You can tell those pins immediately from any regular Disney pin. They are much smaller, thinner and look painted.
They are cheap. And for a reason. At this time they are tradeable. That is always subject to change at any given moment.
They are not BAD pins. I have traded for some FROM CM lanyards. But most people do not want these pins as they know how much less expensive these pins are.
So just a head's up. I make an effort to trade onto CM lanyards what I would like to trade off them.
An example of a Sedesma pin is:

Pin trading is great fun. It DOES help overcome shyness. (For adults AND children) And it is great to see a hobby that the entire family is involved in.

How much to budget for pins? A gazillion dollars. ;)

I found some Disney pins at lower prices at Downtown Disney. I think it was near Earl of Sandwich. There were even a few for a dollar.

Slightly Goofy

:rotfl2: Ain't that the truth! :rotfl2: I don't even want to GUESS how much money we have tied up in DS's pin collection!
True, he has some really great pins - But, Oye! I think we could easily fund a trip to WDW with how many pins we've bought over the years.

hmmm... I could buy a new car, and probably take a DL vacation. :guilty:  :sad2: (3500 or so pins here. My excuse is I have been collecting for years. mmm .... yeah. right.)
