Pls see my post above. That $70 if I had put it in the s&p 500 index in 2011 would be worth $387 today.yes it does, but it confirms to me that BWV points are still overpriced....

But no vacations… S&P 500 is definitely a better investment.If I had put that $70 in the s&p 500 in 2011, it would be $384 right now.
Yes, and standard inflation during that time on $65 per point (It is unclear whether they paid $65 or $70 since the different posts are using different numbers) would reflect a price of $90.79 using an inflation calculator...Pls see my post above. That feels to me to be a good going rate for BWV points given the fact many fewer years are related.... Maybe $90-100 pp.... The current prices are, for me anyways, difficult to justify on a price per year basis.
There are many investments that would have likely outpaced inflation, I am not sure what the S&P really has to do with this at all... DVC is not an investment it is a way to prepay for vacations, and know that if you sell you are likely to get some of that cost back. I would caution folks from using it as an investment vehicle.
Honestly fact checking this post may have convinced me to avoid adding on any more points. I think I will make an S&P “vacation fund” to fund future vacations specifically!Pls see my post above. That $70 if I had put it in the s&p 500 index in 2011 would be worth $387 today.
I believe @Brian Noble has recommended this as something to at least consider... building a fund and using the fund to pay for vacations....Honestly fact checking this post may have convinced me to avoid adding on any more points. Famous last words. lolMe too, no more new points for me!
How about “No new points for me…this year.”?Famous last words. lol
We bought Grand Cal and VDH. You're not crazy. We pay a premium for California.Mixture of grand Cali and aulani. I got direct Grand cali but it was $310 a point and then aulani
Get a rental car. Speaking as someone who grew up in Honolulu, you will absolutely get bored after a few days at the resort. With a rental car you will be able to explore the rest of the island, go hiking, get great cheap eats in other locations, and generally explore. There is a ton of stuff to do outside of Ko'olina (where Aulani is located). Thanks @crvetter!! That helps a lot. My wife's biggest concern with Aulani is boredom. I think it would be really fun, but with 10 hours of travel each way (possibly broken up by a short stop by DL), I almost have to book a week and a half for it to make sense.
Yeah at least know the 97k is for a lot of points that you have and a lot of resorts will expire in 2040 so those direct points will allow you to stay anywhere including the new villas of DisneylandI started reading this thread a bit upset cause the real numbers get scary and not so magical pretty quick, but as I read on I realized we’re all crazy and I don’t feel like the sole insane person spending ~$97,000 on 575pts! Thanks guys!
Our average isn’t that great at ~$168/pt and frankly, it’s only going to get worse cause we want more direct points but is don’t feel so bad anymore!
Yeah it hurts lol because I’m paying a premium but for less points. Why did you decide to buy at VDH if you already own Grand Cal ? Curious because I’ve been toying with VDHWe bought Grand Cal and VDH. You're not crazy. We pay a premium for California.
We bought Grand Cal on resale and wanted direct to have membership extras so we bought VDH when it launched. We don't have an interest at all in Florida but love making our way down to SoCal for a Disney trip. One day, maybe Aulani points will be in the cards. That's a bit of a tougher sell though since it is in Ko'olina which is quite far out from where I'd rather be staying.Yeah it hurts lol because I’m paying a premium but for less points. I just found my "yeah, we passed ROFR!" post from December 13, 2011.I’m curious, how much in US$ did you spend total on initial buy in into DVC?
Still not enough to give up my memories of my 6 year old and I at the parks till 2 am. Life is about so much more then profit.Pls see my post above. That $70 if I had put it in the s&p 500 index in 2011 would be worth $387 today.
Nice collection! How did you manage to get VGF direct for $165 last year? Great price.2010 Bay Lake Tower direct 200 points for $110 a point
2017 Polynesian direct 275 points for $145 a point
2020 Grand Floridian resale 100 points $169 a point
2021 Cooper Creek resale 50 points $175 a point
2021 Bay Lake Tower resale 25 points $203 a point
2022 Boulder Ridge Villas 170 points $116 a point
2023 Animal Kingdom Lodge 120 points $106 a point
2023 Grand Floridian Direct 150 points $165 a point
2024 Beach Club resale 170 points $128 a point
If I could go back I would have split direct Poly points between Poly and Cooper Creek in 2017, I use the home booking advantage and plan 11 months in advance I don't like to waitlist. One of my favorite parts of my membership is gifting trips to friends and family with the points I'm not using that year. I have no regrets I really enjoy my membership feel it's worth every penny. I hope my children and grandchildren enjoy as much as I have when I pass it on to them.
Not to mention you would be paying more and more for resorts on vacations every year without DVC.Still not enough to give up my memories of my 6 year old and I at the parks till 2 am. Life is about so much more then profit.![]()
