I was in a rush the other morning and I went to McDonald's for an egg McMuffin. It was $3.20 just for the sandwich! We have two sets of taxes applied. Don't ask. Wacky. IIRC the egg McMuffin is now more than the breakfast meal used to cost. If I wasn't hungry at the time, I would've said forget it.

I won't be getting that again. That's crazy. I'll make sure to eat before I leave next time.

That's not some small rise in price. It used to be fairly cheap.

Have you noticed a jump in prices like that?

What do you think will happen if minimum wages go to $15 or higher?

I know! I wasn't even going to mention that!

Additionally, I saw where their stock is down. Downturn in sales.

I think people are feeling the pinch. They are very aware of the prices going up and are more careful with discretionary spending.

You add a layer of raising minimum wage to $15 (!) and it would be a nose dive IMO.

I think it's because people don't want to pay that much for crap food. One of the dumbest things McDonalds did was to sell off their stake in Chipotle. Chipotle had their revenue increase this past quarter. People are willing to pay extra for food without so many questionable fillers.

Edit to add: McDonalds hired the ex-Mythbusters guy Grant Imahara for a campaign that assures customers it serves 'real' food.

Went for a Bacon Egg & Cheese biscuit a few months ago and walk out when it was nearly $4. Now I stick with the Sausage McMuffin for a $1.

:faint: That's crazy talk.

The deluxe breakfast was cheaper than that! Eggs, pancakes, sausage, hash browns and a biscuit (IIRC). I wonder what that cost now?!

We would hit McDonalds for breakfast on our way out on a trip. I don't see it anymore.

I agree. I would rather pay a few dollars more and eat at Chipotle. At least there you know you are getting quality food. I agree with the original poster. When McDonalds had low prices you probably didn't care that the food was low quality. Why pay more for less?

Well, another thing is you can't mess with breakfast items but so much.

It used to be fast and inexpensive. Now, the prices. Forgetaboutit.

Breakfast sandwiches at McDonald's have been that expensive for a long time. DH used to eat there once in a while and mentioned the cost and stopped going a couple years back at least. He also complained that the items got smaller. They all are in the $3 range here for a breakfast sandwich. McDonald's is already losing sales so if they raise their prices more they lose more and do worse because quality sure isn't getting better. I won't even go into the $15 and hour because those owners are making a plenty enough that the last thing I am going to do is feel sorry for them.

I now get the Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwich which is $5.69 for four frozen sandwiches. I can usually find a $1 off coupon.

That is debatable. I used to work fast food so I know a lot people in the business. One of the McD's here did $1.6 million in sales one year with ZERO profit. The woman running the store knew all the material. She could quote you directly from the operations manuals. But she was obviously very bad at putting it all into practice.

It was my observation 3 or so years ago that McDonalds prices for breakfast were nuts if you didn't order off the dollar menu. You can get a sausage McMuffin for $1, a sausage biscuit for $1, and a sausage buritto for a $1. Stray from those items, and you will pay.

$1.6 million seems like a lot of money, but a typical McDonalds should be doing that in a month. Sounds like they have a bad location or really realy bad service.
Food, despite inflation, is cheap. Every year Denny's does their brilliant Grand Slam giveaway. That meal costs them 69 cents to make. If you buy ANY beverage with that free meal, they're making money on you.

They are pricey! We stopped before our last Disney trip - for 2 bacon/egg/cheese meals it came to $12 or so. I don't mind paying when the food is of good quality, but come on. And I think people are eating there less and less because they're opting for healthier foods.

Two bottles of water
Two chicken Cobb Salads
Two packages of salad dressing.
One small waffle fry

Chick-fil a Almost $18.00

I believe it! I'd just get 2 cups if ice water because it's free. But they are high! We split the FF. Just want a few. Cheaper. Healthier.

The same order, summer of 2013, same location etc was 2.00 cheaper.

The city water in that area taste yucky. ran out of bottled water in back of the car.

Oh. Understandable.

Everything is going up. :(

I totally agree. Fast food has gotten so expensive. I will b honest that I love subs from JJ and Subway. I go too often. The only way we eat out now is if we have a coupon or kids eat free. I mostly cook everything at home, but it used to be financially ok to eat out not anymore.

I stopped at Subway to get sandwiches for my sons to take on a bus trip with the marching band. Two ft long buffalo chicken sandwiches, 2 small bags of chips, no drinks....$20.64!!!!!

I cook at home a lot. When we eat out it's rarely fast food. Fast food is getting as expensive as full service restaurants.
