How much did you say?

I guess that I am the only one on the DIS that isn't scandalized by a $3.20 breakfast sandwich :confused3. Seriously. It's less than $5. If you want to eat super duper cheap then eat at home.

I stopped at Subway to get sandwiches for my sons to take on a bus trip with the marching band. Two ft long buffalo chicken sandwiches, 2 small bags of chips, no drinks....$20.64!!!!!

I cook at home a lot. When we eat out it's rarely fast food. Fast food is getting as expensive as full service restaurants.

Yes.

Scandalized? It's a change. Surprising to me and I noted it. It used to be super duper cheap. That was the point of the thread.

I said I was going to eat at home now. :confused3

I never understand when people do that.

First of all, it was a general "you" not an OceanAnnie "you" since everyone was complaining on the thread. Sorry I didn't make it clearer, but I thought it was clear enough when I didn't quote you directly.

And I guess I don't understand why people complain about paying such a small amount for a sandwich. If they want to continue to offer their dollar menu they need to pick up the slack somewhere else. FWIW, it was $3.20 all summer here in WI. I know because my DD would get one after early swim practice almost every day. In our area you can also get a 2-4-1 deal if you answer the survey on your previous receipt so that's what we would do.

The reason I responded was it was the premise of the thread I started. :confused3

Again, the gripe is about a change in price. I get that it wasn't a change for you and it doesn't bother you. But rising prices do bother some of us. It adds up. You take a family out to eat and in some cases it's double or more than what it used to be.

People notice.

Mcdonald's stop being cheap food a long time ago IMO.

I'm not surprised that their stock is down, I live in a major city so I do have an advantage just in the sheer number of eateries but now for what mcdonalds charges for a combo meal, a lot of places are offering "lunch specials".

Now I'm not one to complain about the healthiness of the food. IMO if you go to Mcdonalds you pretty much know that you're getting fried food with fillers but in Philly with a pizza joint, indian food, soul food and Chinese food joint on every block, Mcdonalds is usually the last place to go. don't even get me started on Cheesesteaks LOL.

Even our shoprite has a salad bar, rotisserie chicken and sandwiches made to go.

I pretty much view the $15/hour stuff as nonsense. I can't see that happening.

Also remember guys you are paying a premium for convenience.

My family used to eat fast food occasionally and it used to be not only quicker/easier but it also used to be cheaper than going to the store and buying all the ingredients to make your own burger and fries at home. NOT anymore, the price now exceeds my comfort zone for junk food.

Hi E, I hadn't been in awhile. But it wasn't that long ago. I guess different places, different prices.

Yep.

I think it's because people don't want to pay that much for crap food. One of the dumbest things McDonalds did was to sell off their stake in Chipotle. Chipotle had their revenue increase this past quarter. People are willing to pay extra for food without so many questionable fillers.

Edit to add: McDonalds hired the ex-Mythbusters guy Grant Imahara for a campaign that assures customers it serves 'real' food.
FWIW.... It is the same price overall to eat at Chipotle vs. Mcdonalds, and with the difference in food quality, it's a no brainer... Chipotle qualifies as actual food....:rotfl:

I can explain why. Because there are people in this world who actually evaluate every single purchase they make. It can be 25 cents for a pack of gum or $6,000 for a cruise. If it is not good value, I don't buy it.

I don't expect others to be like me (and Anne), but hope that they understand when I don't want to make a certain purchase or have a hard time seeing prices going up so high.

And I have no problem not buying the items.
Poor Annie didn't realize the price went up! And was hungry! Been there, didn't like it.;)

To answer your question Anne

Boston Butt. I used to get it for .99 on sale. Now it is $1.99 on sale.
Prime sirloin at Costco. I used to get it for $7.99 then it was $9.99.
Butter. I used to pay about $8 (4 lbs) and now it is $13.

These used to be's are not years ago. They are less than a year ago. Some in just a month or 3.

Hi Barb and thanks!

You explained it better than I. :)

I cook at home a lot. When we eat out it's rarely fast food. Fast food is getting as expensive as full service restaurants.

Many Subways have a meal of the day, 6-in sub (but you have to get the sub they choose for that day), 32-oz drink (something like that, it is pretty big), bag of chips...$3.99 plus tax. On M-W, there is a local place that also gives you a cookie. So $4.23 for drink, sandwich, chips, cookie is pretty good.

But to OP. The problem for me is that the "deals" don't fit our family anymore. We ordered from Papa John's last week and had to get some meal deal with 2 large pizzas and a 2-L soda. Did not need the soda or 2-toppings on our pizza (one topping would have been good). Anyhow, it is like McDonald's...they can't just charge less for everything, they have to have $1 menu and then upcharge other stuff. McDonald's has been doing a lot of charging $4 for 2 Egg McMuffins...I just want one for $2 :thumbsup2

Same here.

We do have a subway card that racks up points with purchases. After so many purchases you get a free sub. That's nice. Their subs aren't too high for the most part, anyway.

At our local McDonald's you have to ask if they still have the 2 for $3.00 egg mcmuffin. If you order one egg mcmuffin it is $3 for one. Makes no sense. We also still have any size coffee for $1. Again you have to ask for the any size coffee.
