first non under the table job-minimum/1978-california so $2.65 per hour
worked allot of part time jobs (multiples at the same time) during my college years, some paid minimum some above a bit (under the table few day temp jobs paid as much as $10 an hour so those were great, being a clown at a kid's birthday party paid $50 for an hour or twos work so it while it was infrequent it was great income).
first salaried (no o/t paid-exempt per the law-, minimal/lousy benefits) 1987 $1100 per month (minimum was $3.35 per hour so that wasn't bad). a year later i had gone up to $1300 (and minimum had raised to $4.25) but i took a civil service job. it was a no brainer-entry level was $1500 a month, after 6 months you got a 5% raise then auto promoted into another classification that paid 5% higher that you stayed in for 6 months at which time you got another 5% (and 5% every year thereafter until you took other promotions to move to higher paying classifications so you didn't max out). this did not include whatever c.o.l.a. raises were negotiated (back then a minimum of 4 or 5% per year was the norm). went from no o/t pay to time and a half, reasonably priced med/dental, a pension plan, 1 week to 3 weeks paid vacation, 5 days to 12 days paid sick.
