I just filled up my vehicle at $1.67 per gallon! :earseek:

When I first started driving, it was .59 cents a gallon!

Do you remember how much it cost when you first started driving?

There is a gas station that went out of business right around my second year of driving. Ironically enough, they still have the gas cost signs up!

It says 89 cents for regular unleaded and 92 for super!

You expect me to remember THAT far back?;)

I'll just assume it was MUCH cheaper.:p

:o In the words of Don McClean it was "...a long, long time ago".
I don't recall, but I think it may have been...:o about .38 a gallon????:o It was the early 70s, how much was gas then?

I remember a little gas station my parents would get gas at, right off of Passyunk Ave. in Philly not too far from the Penrose Diner. It was .29 cents a gallon! I was only about 3-4 years old, but I remember that sign like it was just yesterday!

I was buying gas a few years before I was legal to drive a car. I had a motorcycle and could fill it up for under a buck! Granted it's only a couple of gallons, but I think you can do the math.

I'll let you know, when that happens....:teeth:

Olena, you don't drive?

.32 to .36 a gal. Every now and then there would be a price war for around .25. Course back then I made $1 per hour working at a grocery store.

To show my age here... it was about $1.15-1.20 at the time.

Weep with me now. I started driving in 1965. Gas then was 15 cents a gallon!!!

When I'd go out with a few friends, everyone would chip in a few pennies. We'd get a gallon of gas and cruise around all night.

Now those were the good ole days. :teeth:

Umm what were the prices in the fall of '02?
Pretty much the same as what I pay now.

I rmember around 25-30 a gal.

Putting $2. of gas in the tank was quite a splurge then too.

I must really be old, but in 57 it was .19c, I could fill up my Dad's 57 chevy for about $3.00 those where the days!!!!!!!

Back in '96....I remember it being $1.05 or so

Here is some perspective:
In March 1981, for example, the average price of a gallon of self-serve, regular unleaded gas was $1.42. If that seems a pretty good price, it's only because the figure doesn't take into account the inflation that has occurred in the 19 years since.

Translated into today's dollars, that gallon of gas would cost $2.87, far more than the pump prices we gripe about today
