How Much Decorating Do You Do For Christmas?

Once we moved to "the big house" from our little starter home , I went nuts . Last year I was up to 5 fully decorated trees. My youngest has turned 12 this year and doesnt care as much any more, so I am down to one 10 ft tree and two 4 ft trees. I didn't decorate the den , just the living room and kitchen. My Dh has stepped his game up outside and it was all his idea. Yard looks great !

Love to decorate for Christmas. I cant't understand not putting up anything.
My mom goes to Florida all winter , leaves the day aftef Christmas and even she decorates.

Every bush and tree outside has lights. Lighted wreathes on every window, including a 4 ft wreath on our entry window.
The deck is strung in lights with a lighted palm tree also.

Inside we have 5 trees including a 12 ft one in the entryway.
Lights on the staircase, mantel, stockings hung ,

We also have 2,trains under one of the trees.
Those are the main decorations

I have a nativity set that lives on the end table in the living room year round, and has for the last 5 years. Of course the only time either of us are in the living room is to dust.

Haven't done a tree in several years. I usually put a huge bow on the front door and decorate the stair railing but not doing that this year either.

My nosey, obnoxious neighbor was making comments about it being time for me to change my front door wreath, an Americana theme wreath, to one more appropriate to the season so I made her happy and put up my "Welcome Spring" wreath. :rotfl2:

I have a small tinsel tree, tinsel that's currently half fallen down from the wall (pain in the *** things) and a small battery powered and a big mains powered string of lights, neither of which are up yet.

Unless the number of trees, is in the double digits, it's not a lot. :lmao:

When I was a little kid, we used to put up one tree. Then, in 1984, when I was 8, we moved into a big house, and we put up 2. The next year, we said, "how many trees would we have to put up to put out all of the ornaments?" The answer was 24 trees. I think the record was 42. Trees, range in size from 2-8', but "decorated" means lights, garlands and ornaments. So that's my "normal." My parents have one spare bedroom solely to store the Disney Christmas, and another spare bedroom solely to store the non-Disney.

Now that I have a house of my own, I do similar, but I have a lot less space, so all of my decorations still fit into the spare bedroom's closet. This year is an "off" year. I haven't been home much, because my Mom is battling cancer, and since Thanksgiving, I've been sick and we're leaving to go to the in-laws on the 20th. But our "less" year, is a 7' tree, a 5' tree, three 4' trees and a 2' tree. And we put out our LEGO village, and nativity. But not the Disney village, or any of the other decorations we normally have.

I think I decorate a fair amount. Six foot tree in the livingroom with all the family ornaments that I have gathered over the years. Five foot tree in the den with a Disney theme. 3 foot tree in the upstairs window with a pet theme.
We do lights on the trees outside, wreaths on all 3 doors. I do the mantle with Christmas figurines & the stockings are hung, take down my "regular" pictures and hang Christmas pictures.

I tend to put a little bit of Christmas in every room. I read somewhere that you should leave a little bit of Christmas up all year, so I tend to do that too....usually a little figurine or a holly sprig somewhere,

Honestly, I feel like the Grinch. But this holiday really gets me depressed in the last few years.

Every year I do less. We used to have outdoor lights, multiple trees, bannister garland, mantel displays a Christmas village, etc. This year we have a tree (that I just decorated yesterday after it had been up since Thanksgiving). My ILs give us a wreath every year and my dh put that on the door -- thus ended his part of holiday decorating and you would have thought I'd asked him to donate a kidney with a spoon. I put a small silver tree on a credenza and... I'm done.

My dh has zero interest in it and would happily pretend the holiday does not exist (until you call his bluff). My only child has to work on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day this year. My dh thinks giving presents is too much work (and doesn't care if he gets any) and my dd has begun behaving like him. But when I suggest just forgetting all about it, I get the "What? What are you talking about? It's Christmas! YOU love Christmas!" complaints. :confused3 Yeah, I used to love Christmas. Not any more. Can't win.

So this year I wanted to go on a cruise and just forget about the idea of a family "event", but unfortunately my dd has to work the holiday. Sigh. So Christmas is still "on" because we'll be home. But I get to have work of the tree and the presents (all of which I did with little help) and don't even get to spend time with my child. Yippee.

When we move, I am getting rid of everything but a few sentimental ornaments and telling the two of them that if they want Christmas, they can do it. Mrs. Claus is going on vacation.
