I’m trying to figure out how much to buy too because I don’t want to be on wifi when I try to grab rides at 7am ( especially if Guardians will be a ILL pick!). I think I’m going with 4gb for the week. I’ll use wifi for browsing etc so I’m probably overestimating what I will need.I know there is wifi. I am just wondering if anyone has used their data. Mostly for Disney app because I heard Genie+ tends to be a little happier with it. Just trying to get a gauge.
If you're just using it for the 7:00 a.m. window, then it will be very minimal. I can't quantify it because I don't know their systems and how much it's pulling and I didn't check usage because I have 70GB and was roaming (Rogers customer in Canada and roaming in the U.S.). But my data usage for the entire trip was definitely less than half a GB (maybe even lower). But literally you only need to get off of wifi for the initial 7:00 a.m. time period (when all of WDW is grinding the Disney wifi to a crawl and when we used it we got into a death spin stall). We experimented on this specifically last month and there is a huge difference when using data vs Disney in-room wifi, at least for us there was. It was night and day. But after the initial 7:00 a.m. silliness, the crush is off of wifi so it was okay to use for anything else.Curious if anyone has only used data for the Disney App? How much data did you use per a day? I'm thinking when I book genie+ I would use data, so curious if my personal data will cover it![]()
I didn't use my own wifi when I was there in October however I am with Bell and there is an option to "roam like home" where you can use the GB that come with your plan for $10 a day. Assuming you may not need it daily, perhaps your cell provider has something similar?
I was with Freedom when I went last time and purchased a travel plan just in case but didn't really need to use it. I did purchase ILL$ for RoTR at 7 am, the rest I was able to get later in the day when I wanted to. I am not sure what it's like right now trying to get them at 7 though, I was there the first week it opened so things have changed.
Thanks. This makes me feel a bit betterI use for more than just MDE. For a 5 day trip recently I used 2 GB (I use Airalo eSIM for data in the US) For the most part I try and stay on Disney Wi-Fi, but it is not always that reliable)
We made roaming calls on our phone (to Virgin Plus, trying to get it sorted, unfortunately as we were starting early in the day - 7a.m. - they didn't answer), not data. Hence the need for Virgin Plus to reverse the Roam charges relating to us calling them unsuccessfully to try to get it worked out.I'm on Virgin Plus, had no problem with data when I used roaming last December in Phoenix.
Was considering using Airalo or similar this summer but was curious how you made calls with a data-only plan.
How does this work? Is it really easy? It sounds too easy!!I use for more than just MDE. For a 5 day trip recently I used 2 GB (I use Airalo eSIM for data in the US) For the most part I try and stay on Disney Wi-Fi, but it is not always that reliable)
If your phone supports eSIM you can get data for as low as $4.50 US for 1 GB. Airalo.com I first tried them out in Jan 2020 when I ran out of data on my Roam Mobility SIM. Then Roam shutdown so I have used Airalo for all my Disney trips since. It's Data only, iMessage still works. Easy to use and top up if you run out of data. The app shows you how much you have left. How does this work? Is it really easy? It sounds too easy!!
It would be great to have a simple solution in the US.
So we have been looking for a new one since Roam went under. This is a virtual sim? Do I still keep my phone number since this is just data? is US good for all including Hawaii? If your phone supports eSIM you can get data for as low as $4.50 US for 1 GB.
