We'll have our Visa, MC ad debit, but how much US cash do you typically take for a 2 week vacation?

We usually take maybe $200 for a 10 day stay. But we completely rely on MC. It's just too convenient to charge everything to the room.

DW and I each keep a "float" of US cash on hand. When it gets down below around $40, we'll top up by $100 at a TD Bank ATM in the US (no fees for Canadian TD Customers) or get cash back at Target/WalMart. We hit the US about 3 times a year, so it is convenient to always have a bit of US cash tucked away. As much as possible, EVERYTHING goes on our Visa with no US exchange PLUS 1% cash back; it is cheaper than using cash as long as you pay the bill in full when you get home. Mostly now I only use cash for tipping the resort staff.

I want to use our MC as much as possible since it's a rewards card as well. I'm just worried about it being a bit too easy to spend when you don't have that cash in hand, lol

I hear you on that. But at the end of the day, it's a vacation, and if we overspend, I will take the punishment of paying off the card when it comes due.

We usually take $100 for a one week trip. We use our rewards Amex for everything. We usually come back with cash. The only things we use cash for are tips, and taxis, and we don't usually need taxis in WDW.

I have about $300 left over from a previous trip after all credit card charges were paid off. I stashed that in the US account we have. I am hoping to have $500 US cash, $100 US in disney gift cards, $120 CAD is Starbucks Cards and $1500 CAD to pay the credit card charges that will occur.

I actually don't drink coffee, but tea and they have food as well. It's 'free' money from airmiles. I used free starbucks cards from the doctor and dentist referrals whe travelling in the UK for breakfast for me and the kid. That was only $50.

:bounce:We are going for 11 days and are taking $1000 USD. I was able to get that amount of cash when the dollar wasn't doing as bad and put it in a US dollar account with TD. If I use this then I don't have to worry about exchange rates and extra fees with the credit card. I also like to use cash when we are buying drinks and snacks rather than the credit card. Each to their own - go with what you feel comfortable with.:tiptoe:

I didn't think we could use Canadian Starbucks Gift Cards in the US.

No difference between Canadian and US Cards. I always used my Canadian cards down in the US, and now that I have converted to SmartPhone app, it works seamlessly across the border. The US price will convert to the C$ equivalent as it debits off your card.

Actually, you may notice that when you register your cards on Starbucks.ca that you are redirected to the US site.

Yep, we can. Use them frequently when we travel as most airports seem to have them. Bought snacks to take on the plane, hot tea & breakfast before an early flight once we past security. Never an issue using them in the US or UK! :thumbsup2

That's great, good to know thanks. :-)
