How much candy do you give?

Just curious as to how many pieces of candy you give to each trick or treater?

I usually give several pieces per kid, those candies are so small, it seems chintzy to give just one piece. I don't count them, just take a few pieces (about 4-6) per kid. One year I painstakingly packaged equal pieces in ziploc sandwich baggies with Halloween decorations on them, but that is an extra expense, also, it limits you if you start to run low, then I found myself oepning the baggies to hand out 1-2 pieces at a time.

I bought 5 large Costco bags, I usually run out every year!

I think it depends upon how many kids you get at your house.

We buy some expensive candy, but only have about 20 kids come to our house. We then load everyone on our haywagon, and my husband drives them around to trick-or-treat pullling the haywagon with his antique John Deere. The haywagon can carry 20-30 kids and adults and we spend a few hours if we can. I supply hot chocolate and hot apple cider.

There are people who live on our town's main street who get 2500 kids!!! They give out very small candies and even have donation bins for candy at our local grocery stores because of the cost.

Depends. One year we were telling the kids to grab handfuls of candy. They were only taking one piece. DD was instructed to give them as much as she could since we hardly had anyone come to the door. Mostly we give them a good handful. If its a slow year, we give them two or more handfuls. We give out a lot of candy. But we don't have many kids in the neighborhood. This year we will be at a party and won't be home to pass out candy.

I usually just give out one piece.

When we only got 20-30 trick or treaters, I'd just get full sized candy bars or M&M tubes from Sam's Club and give one to each kid. We lived up a long, twisty driveway ... so I wanted to make it worth the effort to get to our house! LOL.

Now that we get a couple hundred (moved to a big subdivision), I give out Tootsie Pops and each kid gets one. I figure the kids can hit 10X's as many houses in the same amount of time as in our old neighborhood.

We usually give out a handfull at a time. But since we are only here for a short time before we head up to our church we don't see many kids!

Our neighbor hands out full sized candy bars, he always has. This year he has 5 boxes to give out! There are a few kids that get more than one bar from him!

We usually do 2 of the mini candy bars and 1-2 pieces of the bubble gum or suckers for each kid. I'm actually stressing about how much candy to buy this year. We are in a new home and we don't know the neighboors enough to ask.

In our old house we lived on the busiest street in town for trick-or-treating. We used to buy 20-25 bags of candy and we'd always run out about 3/4's of the way through the evening.

My mom and sister live close to each other- she gets maybe 5 kids all night while my sister buy's 20 bags, gives out 1 pc per child and she usually runs out in the first hr.

We get a lot of ghosts, goblins and witches by us! All in all we make about 125 goodie bags, seperated into 4 age groups. The bags for the first three age groups contain about 4-5 different types of candy (the candy varies for these and I try to stay pretty age appropriate - the older the group the more chocolate they receive!) and then 3-4 novelty items, little toys, etc. The fourth set of bags is candy only and has 7-8 different fun size bars like Twix, Reeses, M & M's, Milky Ways, etc., no toys - these are for like the pre-teen age. And then the teens get a full size candy bar! ( I usually go through about 40- 50 of these.) Then I have a great big box full of items I have gotten on fantastic sales/clearance like hackey saks, paddle w/ balls, bags of toy soldiers, kids sunglasses, squishy balls, etc. Those I am selective about handing out and tend to give them to the kids who are solo or with only a sibling and their parents - not to the large groups. Experience has taught me that in large groups they tend to compare items rather than appreciate. It costs us a lot, but it is soooo fun to do!:goodvibes

It depends on the type of candy and the size of the kid and lastly how much we have left and the time left for the T O Ter's.

Depends on the age of the treater and if I know them.

There are about 10 kid I know well who come to the door. They get a full sized candy bar.

Small kids get two or three mini candy bars or else a standard size tootsie pop made into a "ghost."

Teens who didn't even bother to dress up, just come slouching to the door with their hand out, get a single piece of candy--just enough to keep my windows from being soaped.

The kids we know we give out big bars ans the kids we dont know get 2 of the little ones.

I always buy the little fun size chocolate bars. I live in a decent sized neighborhood and people drop their kids off by van loads. LOL I usually hand out one little candy to each child. If the costume is just too cute for words, I will give 'em a big ole hand full. I usually like to have a couple handfuls of the chocolate goodness left by the end of the night, so when my own boys come in from trick or treating, they go through the candy that they don't want or like and I hand that back out instead of throwing it away. ;)

We get quite a few kids, so I usually give out two of the little candy bars per kid. That reminds me - I need to go check my stash - last year my sons (who are NOT kids) got into it, did not mention it to me, and when I went to get the stuff on Halloween it was half gone! I had to run over to the grocery store. They've been warned this year but I'd better check just in case...

I don't give out any. I'm usually out with the kids and DH is working! So when we get back I just recycle our kids candy to the last few straglers.

ONE piece per child.

Am I cheap?

NO!!!

We get nearly 500 Trick-or-treaters each year. I'm NOT exaggerating!!!:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

We live in a subdivision that is the coolest place to ToT apparently. People drive from all over the city (and neighboring cities) to come here. If you stand in the middle of the street and look down, it's a sea of people-it's CRAZY!!!!

I have to start buying candy at the start of September so I don't drop $75 at once :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

My kids would be screaming and trying to pull my hair out, but I love the idea!!!:rotfl: :woohoo:

We live in a large cul de sac. Every halloween we set up long costco tables at the top of the cul de sac and each cul de sac family puts their filled candy bowls on the tables. We take shifts manning the bowls, but most of the trick or treaters go down the line buffet style and pick up their candy.

The kids must love that!:woohoo: What a great idea! :goodvibes

This year we are doing some fun sized candies and some novelty things from Oriental Trading (spider rings, glowing bouncy balls, etc). I think I"ll let the kids pick one thing from each bin. I haven't really decided yet. We used to give out full sized candy bars, but the year we went over 300 trick or treaters, we stopped doing that! We live in one of those developments where kids come from miles around, too!
