One comment I see on the boards is “I own about two inches of carpet” or “my doorhandle at AKV” or some such. And it got me to thinking: how much equivalent space do I own at my home resort? Is it a carpet square? Could I jam a sleeping bag into the area I have? How could I know? Then I realized: I could know, if I had some Fun with Math! Yes, it can be done.

With a little research I got the relevant numbers, and after calculating it out I discovered that I own about 28 square feet in a 1-BR, or a square about 5.3 feet a side. Since I like to sit out on the balcony and listen to the Magic Kingdom, I’m gonna say that my part of the room is out there where a chair and a table are so I can sit my coffee down. If she’s really nice, maybe I’ll let my wife drag a chair into that space, too, so she can join me!

So…how much DVC do you own? Check the handy-dandy chart below to see what the typical area per 100 points is, and then multiply it out (so if you have 150 pts, then take 1.5 times the number). As a helpful reference, I took the average resale prices for last quarter and multiplied out the $/square foot cost to buy resale at each of these resorts; all I can say is thankfully none of us are renting out apartments at these prices!

And now that you know how much area you really own: which part of the room do you want? Remember: I got dibs on the balcony!

9.8 sq ft at ccv
10.4 Sq ft at pvb
Both studios

I guess I should consolidate and take a couch.

I really appreciate what you did. I was a math teacher for many years, so this looks like fun to me. I just can't get over the g\fact that we actually own square FEET, not square INCHES. And we own roughly 12, 16, and 19 square feet at each resort we own. Nineteen square feet at OKW-now to dream of what we own.

When I first bought I tried to estimate it off my ownership percentage and said I owned the toilet lid at Aulani. Or maybe the whole toilet after I did my add on. But with your calculations, Now I think I own the dining room table! Let’s add a chair there.
At Boardwalk, I call the bed and nightstand! Woot woot!

I won’t question your math but I think your methodology doesn’t take into account the difference between a residential unit and a vacation home.

I call the bath tub! That way I can stay clean and lay out a pillow and sleeping bag. Oh my aching back!

I think that I own enough AKV points to lay claim on one of the faucet handles. Now to decide on whether it's a bathroom or kitchenette knob? Hot or cold water?
