One comment I see on the boards is “I own about two inches of carpet” or “my doorhandle at AKV” or some such. And it got me to thinking: how much equivalent space do I own at my home resort? Is it a carpet square? Could I jam a sleeping bag into the area I have? How could I know? Then I realized: I could know, if I had some Fun with Math! Yes, it can be done.
With a little research I got the relevant numbers, and after calculating it out I discovered that I own about 28 square feet in a 1-BR, or a square about 5.3 feet a side. Since I like to sit out on the balcony and listen to the Magic Kingdom, I’m gonna say that my part of the room is out there where a chair and a table are so I can sit my coffee down. If she’s really nice, maybe I’ll let my wife drag a chair into that space, too, so she can join me!
So…how much DVC do you own? Check the handy-dandy chart below to see what the typical area per 100 points is, and then multiply it out (so if you have 150 pts, then take 1.5 times the number). As a helpful reference, I took the average resale prices for last quarter and multiplied out the $/square foot cost to buy resale at each of these resorts; all I can say is thankfully none of us are renting out apartments at these prices!
And now that you know how much area you really own: which part of the room do you want? Remember: I got dibs on the balcony!
