to go back to WDW ASAP?

We just got back and I am soooo looking forward to going back again that I want to save the $$$$ as fast as possible in order to ensure that it is a sure thing.

Un fortunately life gets in the way and $$$ is hard to set aside. We have started kitchen renovations and I am looking to save as much as possible on the renovations so that it doesn't cost too much. Am I nuts? I want a decent looking kitchen but nothing too fancy and too expensive. I want a Disney vacation too.

We have put off doing the renovations as much as possible, but we can not put it off ant longer....

How much are you guys willing to sacrifice?

We don't go out to eat or go to the movies. We eat meats only on weekends and we only buy frozen never fresh(unless there is a real good sale)veggies.
So we sacrifice entertainment and expensive meals but by the time we get to Disney we feel that it was well worth the sacrifice.

In order that we can go to Disney next year we have to skip Disney this year but that is in part to our utility bills nearly killing us. So we have to actually sacrifice Disney to go to Disney,if that makes sense.

I'm putting off my new kitchen floor till next year.

We don't sacrifice anything, we just have priorities. Vacations are a priority to us. WDW is our favorite place to vacation. However, if it meant not paying our bills or not eating or something, of course we would not go.

I can live without fancy clothes or things like that. I could care less about bags, shoes, makeup, fancy cars, fancy tvs etc. We spend very little on that sort of thing and wouldn't spend a lot on it even if we weren't going to WDW. So it's not really a sacrifice.

We don't really sacrifice for our Disney vacations...we don't go on other big vacations, we would rather spend our time in WDW. What we spend on 3 or 4 days at Ocean City, I can get a whole week at WDW, and much more fun!!!
We don't have fancy clothes or cars and basically my house is the way I want it. We have an inground pool so we really don't need alot of vacation trips. Disney is our big splurge and we like to go every 2-3 years, but lately it has been an annual trip!!! Since the kids are grown, my DH and I have been doing more frequent short trips (M - F) and we have been loving it!!!!

We feel the same way about our local vacations! A week in NH at a nicer hotel would cost us double what a week in WDW would.

I am in Sales, so I take 1/2 of my commission checks and put into our "Disney Fund"....I also add $50 out of each paycheck (every 2 weeks)....since we usually book our trips at least 6 to 8 months in advance...this gives us plenty of time to save.....we also take any money we get from our families for Christmas and our birthdays.....plus any tax refund.....

I wouldn't say we sacrifice anything....we don't eat out, except for special occasions, we just save..... :rockband:

We've been hit with 3 floods in our lives, two different homes, two different rivers, and we lost material things each time. We invest in experiences now as they will last as long as we have a few functional brain cells left. I could have bought a new economy car for what I paid for our '04 trip with us, my 78 yr old Mom, three kids, SIL, son's girlfriend and granddaughter, but that experience was, and still is, priceless. You can't take things out of this life.

I totally agree with Bill. I could be putting in new carpeting with what I am spending for WDW this year, but my grandchildren will only be young for such a short time. I want the memories more!!!

I totally agree with Bill also. Life is enriched by "doing" and not by "having". Trust me, we could use a a new kitchen floor, and new carpet, too...but we've decided to heck with it, we'd rather get out there and enjoy life than sit around and admire the floor. :teeth:

We are putting off our home addition. My husband said that we could do it but there would be no more Disney vacations for a long time. :rotfl2: :lmao: :
We will be at WDW in 4 weeks. I am very happy with my decision. I would rather wait and be able to do both on a tighter budget.

LOL Don't take this the wrong way, but I'm not willing to sacrifice anything right now to go to WDW. Now as soon as EE opens to the public, then we might have some talking to do! ;)

My oldest will be off to college this summer, the lease on my apartment is up August 1st. I don't want to move, but a 2 bedroom will save a lot of money vs. our 3 bedroom. Money that can go towards my trip in December! It was my 15 year old's idea and I think she may be right!

We're looking to buy another house, which will be more expensive. But, DS graduates from high school next year, and after that I don't know when we'll be able to take another family trip all together. We've been saving steadily for our next home, and enjoyed a trip to WDW last month. But ... I have one more Disney trip in the works for next January, which will probably be it until DD graduates in three years. Also, we like to take long weekend trips in the spring and summer, but will be skipping those this year to save for Disney instead. Thankfully, DH works every overtime opportunity that comes his way, which will enable us to take our next trip ... and still get our house!

I would be willing to sacrifice a lot to make a Disney trip happen - meals out, entertainment, etc. Fortunately, we don't spend excessively anyway so I don't really feel the need to sacrifice anything, but I would if I had to!

We sacrifice style. Our house has all used furniture in it. Our friends know to ask us if we want something before they get rid of it. We have never bought a bedroom set or living room set. Nothing in my house matches, but it is comfortable and functional and that is all that matters. We buy clothes at the end of the season when they are on sale and put them away until next year. We buy in bulk when there is a grocery item that we use on sale. Every rebate check, reimbursement check from work, and all bottle return money goes into the Disney fund. We rarely go out to eat or to the movies, but that's ok we play a lot of games and make pizza at home. We don't just save money for Disney though, we save money for extra security too. If something breaks or needs to be replaced, it feel good to know that we have money to cover it. We do go on another vacation to the coast each summer, but that is a bare bones vacation. All of my family gets together and we rent a house and split the cost. We just enjoy each other's company and the ocean.

Moving out of my parent's house. :teeth: But it's not really a sacrifice because I love living with my folks after living away from them for a year and a half.

Thanks for all your great replies.... I too feel that life is not about all the ¨stuff¨you have but by all the great memories you make. Life can be short, I know all too well.

Although we are renovating the kitchen, we are really doing it on the cheap. I jsut want to get it all over with and spend as least as possible. Unfortunately DH seems to think we need a new stove and fridge....ughh. I still have time to change his mind though LOl.

Now if those Disney specials could come out soon, I may be able to work some magic on him.

Ummmm, we are literally willing to put up with #*$@ to go every year! Our street just got sewer, but we are struggling along with our overflowing septic--reluctant to part with potential Disney money to tie in  . Now that's sick.

We are constantly "saving" for our next Disney trip. I do all of the budgeting and whenever we get raises or work a few hours extra, I don't even count that money in the checking account. It's unbelievable how quickly it all adds up. I love vacation and feel since we work very hard, we should play hard as well.
