how much are you willing to pay before you say enough

Considering the cost of tickets ($55.00 for a one park single day) and the rate at which the prices increase, how much are you willing to pay before you say enough.
I cant imagine I would ever spend more than $70.00 a day.

We usually book packages that include park admission. I feel that this is a better value for us. Or I would at least purchase park hoppers to get the most of our money.

I feel that we really get alot for the money.....

At MGM.....tons of rides, parade, Beauty & The Beast on Stage(rivals any stage performance we have paid $$$ to see), Fantasmic....definately a great value, at that is one of the smaller parks.

AK.....a real safari, FOTLK - awesome Broadway type show, carival rides, parade. etc

Epcot....the whole "world" for your enjoyment, not too mentions the awesome rides and shows and learning experiences at Future World.

MK....how can you really put a price on all it has to offer? It is one of the most magical places on earth. Again, many, many rides and shows, parades and fireworks.

Considering how much other theme parks charge for admission and how they compare to WDW, I think Disney is a bargain.

The 'per day' deals at all parks including Disney are well beyond my means. The multi-day, multi-park option seems towork a lot better for my family.

I totally agree with Momxx5! Just look at the price of other parks and what they offer vs Disney's admission price and what they offer! It's a deal!! We are AP holders and we think that's a deal too! Not to mention their (discounted) room rates. We're staying at POFQ for $79 starting tomorrow. You can't hardly get a rat hole on the side of the highway for that! And POFQ is beautiful!!

I agree...we plan an annual Disney vacation and this year we are going to buy APs. This will get us some great room discounts, free parking (we drive down from Boston - GO SOX!!!!!!!!) and we are planning on our next trip to be within one year from this upcoming one. So, the value is great.

When you just think of $55.00 just for admission to one park it does sound high. Realistically, it does.

However, with that said, the money it takes to operate a top notch crew, to keep the streets and surroundings clean, to put on fabulous shows and the fireworks that happen everynight at Epcot plus the nights of MK and Fantasmic at MGM must be outrageous.

Before DH and and a friend of ours ever went to Disney, they thought the ticket prices were high but once they saw what they got they totally understood.

2 things:

For me, it is less about the individual ticket prices and more about the cost of the vacation. We went for 7 nights last year, we splurged and it cost around $5000. Next year we are planning to go 6 nights for less than half that. We are going to buy DVC to keep that cost down over time. But over on the DVC board, there are a lot of people who complain about high ticket prices, and a lot stay at DVC resorts and visit less expensive parks, like Universal Studios and IoA.

For me, and I believe for many here, if the cost rises, we would still go, but less often. Instead of once or twice a year, it might be just once every other year. The higher the price, the less frequent the visits.

Our local amusement park is $38 a day - and it isn't as well kept up, doesn't have the variety, doesn't have the shows. We pay $7 for movie tickets for 90 minutes of entertainment (and 30 minutes of commercials). We pay $40 for seats to a ballgame. $70 for theatre tickets. We went to the local arboretum this weekend - $7 to look at plants. Disney is still a relative bargain when we look at access to 9 or more hours of entertainment a day, rides, beautiful landscaping, etc.

It's easy (for me at least) to get caught up in the excitment of the planning, the discount codes, esp a mail or email code, and reading these boards about folks who only stay in a Concierge room. As much as I would love to do that, and in no way do I feel others should not follow their heart and pocketbook, it's really difficult for me to spend so much for Concierge. I think of what else good that money could be doing...donations at Christmas, or any time of yr, to help those less fortunate etc etc. I cannot afford to do both.

I do love both WDW and DL and have stayed in the deluxe resorts many times over the last 25 yrs (including 3 ngts beginning tomorrow..) but I feel best when I stay at a moderate (or a value for a quick & short visit). The moderates are beautifully themed and when there is a code, the price cannot be beat!

Every few yrs I treat myself to a deluxe (well, not every few yrs, maybe every other ) because I love having a balcony - it makes even a short visit feel like more than a few days away. And it's so nice to be really near MK or EPCOT & MGM. What's better than walking over or a short monorail or boat ride??? <sigh>

I do not buy the length of stay passes as we would never get our money's worth (no small ones to use the water parks and the pools are great anyway!)...better to buy a multiday and have it good forever..although I really like having the days on my keycard and don't know how that would work when the resort stay is over..anyone know about that???

I enjoy these boards and reading about other's experiences and tips. All in all I think Disney has become incredibly expensive for families - i.e. food prices used to be much more resonable. But, so far, I've not found a vacation destination as enchanting, a resort as lovely and convienent, and the family oriented fun as well done as Disney. The live entertainment can't be beat, almost every CM is gracious...it always takes my breath away when I walk down Main St or into Future World, or see the monorail glide thru the Contemporary Resort.... I hope to be sharing wonderful vacations with grandchildren in years to come.

I think I know what you mean...$55. dollars a day ...what if it goes to $100...who will be able to afford this on a regular basis? I know I cringe when I think about the price of 2A and 2C annual passes. But it is one of our big vacations, and our kids are little and want to do it all. Sometimes I think about all the famlies/people who Disney is out of their reach. I know there is a cap for me, but it is probably a matter like the previous poster said, we will go less frequently (and if we had to, we would sell the DVC). I am sure Disney knows what their target market is, and what that market has for disposable income.

That's why I love the budget board!!!

I work on Broadway in NYC where the customary full-price ticket to a musical is $101.25. Lots of discounts out there, but even a half-price ticket is over $50. And that's for a show that runs maybe 2:45, usually less. Yes, it's considered expensive, but it's worth it for most shows.

When I go to Disney, my average day in the parks runs from 10:30 a.m. - 9:30 p.m. -- I see at least 3 or 4 shows, including parades, major fireworks displays, & so-called street shows. I go on as many rides as I want & can fit in & at Epcot see museum-quality exhibitions. At all parks I experience things I can't see anywhere else but at the Disney parks -- and they do it in a way that ensures that virtually every step I take has me entertained by SOMETHING. (Sometimes, I choose to have my meals in certain restaurants specifically so I DON'T get entertained! Sometimes I just need a break, ya know?)

So, no, I don't think the $45-55 per day ticket is asking too much. In fact, I think it's quite reasonable. As one postor (poster?) put it, though, it all adds up. By the end of the week you've spent a small fortune. I think it's worth it.

I couldn't agree more. This June we stayed in a rat hole in NJ (visiting relatives) and it was $119.00. That was the very cheapest hotel in town. One week later we checked into pofq for $94 per night. I couldn't stop marveling at what a gorgeous hotel we got for the price.

canwegosoon, you got my point. I was not disputing the value for the money or that their operating costs are tremendous. I was stating that with the way tickets are increasing in price, a Disney vacation may become "out of reach" for me. I have 2 little ones. The oldest will be 4 and we will have to purchase her tickets for this trip. This will be the last free trip for my youngest as she will be 3 in the spring. When they turn 10.... ouch 4 adult tickets. I already know plenty of families who cant afford to go...... at some point, I would become one of them.

it was different when my kids were small - Disney had Jr tkts then - so it was 3-11 and then 12-17 for a junior. We've wondered why they made the adult age so young, but I can only guess that somehow they felt a lot of people were saying kids were under 12 when older...BUT...not all that many kids look under 12 - 12 is an age where lots of kids go through a growth spurt...

10 is awfully young to be an adult!

After living next to Six Flags Over Texas I personally dont think DisneyWorld is expensive at all!! Its around $45 for a one day ticket to six flags and they dont have near the amt of rides, entertainment as WDW... We buy season passes since we are right around the corner but at their prices we would be lucky to go once a year... The first time I went to WDW in 2000 I remember reading on the boards about how expensive the food and drinks are too.. but when I got there I was amazed that they are no more than six flags.. I guess I just expected them to be much higher since they are so much bigger...

I know exactly how you feel. I used to do a lot of international business travel ,and my company insisted that we fly business class for overseas travel. Even though it wasn't out of my pocket I used to cringe at what the air ticket cost and think of the charitable organizations that could have used the thousands of dollars more that the ticket cost. It really bothered me.

Oh NO...I haven't even takin my vacation yet and I can already tell you, it doesn't seem high at all. Just this last weekend here in Denver we went to Elitches Six Flags--the ticket for adults was like 32 dollars and we were lucky the rest got in with some season pass holders---OMGosh, what aRIP OFF. This place shouldn't even be able to use the Six Flags logo--it was horrible!!!

I know other places cost at lease that--SO, with that in mind...55 isn't anything...I just think when you plan on going to disney, you have to plan to have an adventure, its the only way to look at it!! I knew when we started planning it, it would be at lease 5000 dollars and now I am happy if I can bring it down. You have to just be ready for it.

Spend the money and really live the Disney experience. Save your pennies in other area's. If the truth be told, I just don't think any of us are making enough money to begin with--that is where the problem lies

Friends of mine just got back from disney last month (florida),
total cost for their family of 5 $15000.00cnd dollars.
Down here in atlantic canada the average salary is $20 -22 grand a year. To put this into perspective thats almost 3/4 of a full years wages!!!
Ya, when a 10 day vacation costs that much....its too high now!!
