I just got 100 gallons (which will only last a month, a little more if we really conserve!) and with taxes and fees it was $425.00!!! It was $3.79 a gallon! Just last year I paid about $300 for 100 gal. and the year before it was only $200! I don't know how we're gonna make it when it gets really cold this winter!!

Ours was just filled a couple of days ago. We run only our heat pump on propane.....it hadn't been filled since last winter/spring (it was just getting warmer, heat wasn't on much after), we try very hard to conserve and it was 36 gallons. If you pay within 10 days it is 2.29 a gallon. 2.34 after that I think...we rarely go over 50 gallons a month even in the coldest months but we keep the heat low (lower than I'd like!). So I think the bill was $83 or something like that.

YIKES!! Ours was $2.09 a gallon then we get a .20 cent a gallon discount for 'keep fill' and something like a 5% discount if the bill is paid within a 10 day period. Hope you live somewhere where it isn't that cold. We are in Michigan where it is 22 degrees with about a foot of snow on the ground already and it's snowing pretty good right now. Couldn't imagine those prices you just got charged. :scared1:

OP, where do you live? I'm in Ohio, and ours is 1.79. They said the price has been dropping. It was 2.19, then 1.99, now 1.79. Ask if they can do better on the price or if they have any programs that will qualify you for a lesser rate.

Hi OP, I don't know where you are but google your state and average propane price. You'll get a bunch of info showing today's average propane price. Armed with that info I called my company and complained and they lowered my price by
50 cents per gallon. That is a ton of money on 300 gallons, which is what we got. Unfortuntaely I seem to have to do this all the time with our company who seems to consistently charge higher prices so I will probably be changing companies come spring. Good Luck!

We locked in at $1.59 for this winter.

We bought a corn stove a couple years ago to save on heat, just then the corn went up and is not such a savings over propane. Can't win! We're doing a mix- burn corn when we feel like it, furnace the rest of the time. As cold as it is right now, the furnace will still kick on when the corn stove is burning.

I filled up in August and paid $1.49/gal. in PA. When the tank is low, I'll get 200 gal. and pay Winter prices. Then, I'll get the tank filled (1000 gal. tank-holds 800 gal) in the dead of Summer.

I was paying $3.15/gal. last time I filled up from my old company. Yeah, there's a reason they are my old company. Prices can vary GREATLY from one dealer to another, so shop around. As long as you own your tank, you can switch providers.

OP here. I live in Northern AZ and it does get cold here in the winter, lots of snow and ice. I live in an area where there is no natural gas lines so our home only uses propane, stove, hot water heater and heater. I will definitely check and see about prices in our area, problem is there is only one propane delivery service, Amerigas.

that is the key to being able to shop around.

You usually will get a discounted price for owning your own tank as well.

We're getting the shaft as well, we just got a bill today for $3.55 a a gallon !

Well we rent our tank. How much do they cost to buy? Do you just get them from the propane company, or do they sell them elsewhere?

We are locked in here in Ohio at $1.89. We own our own tank as well and that definitely gives a person bargining power. We bought a used refurbished 500 gallon tank from a reputable dealer and it paid for itself within two or three fillups.

Where I live, used tanks sell for about $1 a gallon. In other words, $500 for a 500 gallon tank, $250 for a 250 gallon tank, etc. You can buy them from the propane dealership, but I suggest checking Craig's List. You are paying entirely too much for propane! :scared1: We filled up our tank last summer so I don't know what propane's going for now, but less than $2.00 a gallon I'm sure. If I were you, I would change to total electric or buy a pellet stove, something else besides paying that outrageous $4 plus a gallon for propane! :sad2: So sorry for your pain!

Filled up last week here in northern Alabama at $1.99 a gallon. That's the rate for one-time past payments. If you aren't timely, you pay more.

Upstate NY--DH just paid the bill, so I don't know the exact amount, but I'm thinking we were in the $3.19 range. We were at $2.99 last year. 10 years ago we were at $0.99.

Near Lake George, NY. We prepaid for 550 gallons for the winter back in September. The "best" rate from our company was $2.57/gal.
This is our last year with Suburban. Have used them over 15 years, but it goes up every year and now we had to pay a tank rental fee of over $80. This for tanks they put in 15 years ago?? Stayed with them since they were not going to go under, like another local company did, but another company was almost 50 cents a gallon cheaper.

We paid $3.29 a couple weeks ago. When I called around for prices, they ranged from $3.25 - $4.39. That was in Florida.

We got ripped off for our tank. They charged me $1600 for a 1000 gal. tank that was 5 years old. I broke down and bought it (one of the best purchases I've ever made) and haven't looked back. That company was charging us a 0.50/gallon premium for renting the tank, even after 5 years. It was supposed to be 0.25/gallon but b/c I didn't get it in writing they upped it at their whim. They told me the reason it was upped was because we weren't using a lot of propane...total BS....we have a big, 2-story house, with propane heat, fireplace, cooktop, clothes dryer, water heater.....and that wasn't using a lot of propane? They were lying theives!

I've already save well over $1000 in 2 years, by purchasing my tank.
